William being the new guest who arrives in episode two and tries on the hats, etc.

heyp is thinking of Bernard not william.

also he didn't try on hats, it was a great scene where they just showed him wearing the hat after a "choose one" situation.

No, I was thinking we were talking about Hopkins.

OK, sorry. Now I get why the theory exists. Let me see if I get it right, then explain one possible big weakness.
    • Theory
Aside from the seguing from William to MiB throughout Ep 2, William doesn't seem to talk to anyone at all from Ep 1, except for Dolores at the very end. I agree, we have no idea what time for Dolores that is. It could be the very first time MiB picks up the fallen can for Dolores, with symbolism tied to Dr Ford's narration over the scene "It's the little things that keeps them coming back." (Keep MiB coming back.) Also, the Sheriff Narrative doesn't exist. They have that Army recruiting narrative instead. But that could be due to the Deputy guy breaking down and going offline, and they had to swap Narratives.
    • One Weakness
Now that said: a single timeframe still may apply. We can link William to Delores post-reverie code. When they first arrive, William and his friend see Delores as she's doing her regular walk to the horse to drop the can. And the camera pans (without a cut) to Dolores having a moment of pensive stare into the window which segues to her talking to Bernard. Delores has never stared like that in her narrative before...thus, post reverie update.
Thus, I think WIlliam is simply there to fall for Delores, and her to use him, maybe with him eventually meeting MiB. Further, William has that famous mole on his face. But I'll give the Theory that inconsistency.

William is definitely an explorer. He looks around. Notices details. That may not be unlike any first timers, but he's he's got that in common with the man in black for sure. He's seeking adventure and exploration. The theme of the episode centers around William, and the theme ends with what one could be. But William hasn't left the parts of himself behind, and that seems in contrast to the man in black, who seems to have clearly done that.

If true, it gives more credence to why Teddy Love exists, which would be to draw out a battle for the MiB guest and lose.

but If all of this is true, I am confused why the Dad would hate both the man in black and Teddy Love. Seems like he would choose one or the other. So that still confuses me.

^^^ The parody of Hopkins's ending-speech starting at image #119 is hilarious.

fwiw: Didn't MiB imply Teddy was new to the Delores narrative in Ep 1? Also, he doesn't even spend time with Dolores in some loops.

I'm going with William is there to fall for Delores, and she to use him. As she gains more ability to use her reverie code, and whatever plot Bernie is hatching for her, she literally learns to use William, and he finds it more than fun to help...but also a real adventure. And maybe Teddy is their "Guide" to include a 3some??? Oopps. Then his buddy shows up and William can't resist trying out his gun and killing Teddy and ravaging her, and he has to restart the achievement attempt.

Maybe William even acts as someone to remind her every day of what happened, like Groundhog Day/Edge of Tomorrow

see: I just think the theory is boring vs other things not involving plot twists you can think up.

Exactly. I'm not a huge movie buff so I'm sure there are better comparisons.

It could all go that way. William is being drawn toward Delores for sure. And Delores is about to wreak some havoc.

Teddy's alternate loops are interesting. Supposedly he can get everyone to level 2, whatever that is, so 100% more adventure or more self reflection directly attached to his side quests. Teddy is no doubt someone who is likely to get you into a mess somehow, and he always dies in it, lol. 2 times now. Dead. poor guy is going to go nuclear over that at some point.

I will re-watch to see if Teddy was new to Delores. I saw it differently. My impression was that Teddy is always and always has been getting in the way of the man in black from getting to Delores, but never stopping him or it from happening. Plus Delores seems to imply that they are always running into each other and destined to be together. So even if he leaves her on a quest, he's coming back again.

By the way, is Chestnut the horse? And why did they devote an entire episode to the name of Chestnut?

And Teddy going nuclear has precedence on the show already.

Remember the Host who went buggy-nuclear in Ep 1, killing and pouring milk on everyone, and they had to shut down the scene and "rescue" some Guests who had to watch it all.

They said, paraphrase, "What happened. He always bites it in this narrative." Well, not that time. He kills everyone instead.. He got his pent up-reveries revenge ... or what I like to call, reverenge -- reverie revenge.

Probably related to the saying.. That old chestnut. Like when a story is repeated a lot of times.

Apparently, this show is going to drag on for 5 or 6 seasons. So, whatever is going to happen, it's going to be a long process. The ending could be like the ending of the movie but, then again, it may not be. From what I've read, everything...including the conclusion...has already been scripted out. All the key actors already know how it's going to end.

I don't think HBO has a history of letting shows "drag on" for 5-6 seasons. If it goes that long it means it will be having a great run.

Basically as well sourced as it is, I don't believe anything you posted.

The producer and writer said that they delayed the show so they could script everything out for the next 5 seasons.

That's great. A welcome change from the shows that obviously only have a plan for the first season. That doesn't mean it will "drag on" for 5 seasons.

When it was delayed I read that they finished all the scripts for the first season and had casting and production delays. So I don't really believe what is in your post either tbh.
