He will fail at ratings because 790 is not the home of the Texans and Houston is a football town 365 days a year. Rockets & Astros would have to go on championship level runs while at the same time have Texans become really awful to dent the football ratings domination by 610.
I won't remove it from my dial because I still listen in the mornings (only because of my irrational crush on matt) and I like sean too (despite adam). hearing MT call a rockets game on my way in this morning was like...NSFW levels of orgasmic.
I choked laughing in my car when Pablo hit the three at the end of the 1st quarter and Lance did his impersonation live during the play by play. I still love those two together, but damn those Low T, Los Cucos and Custom built bed commercials after the PGS 7am commercial free hour.
ohhhhh dude. I ****ing hate all of the ads on 790. not sure which one is the worst. -lance for low T -lance for los cucos -greg for mattress company -b**** who reads the copy for wells fargo app commercials ("it's MONEY!") and a couple others -b****(es) who try to convince listeners "it's the thickness and width we want!" -that loooooooog ass mosquito spray man spot - I swear this is at least 90 seconds long -charlie for life lock (ok kinda glad i'll never have to hear that again) I do die at lance's impressions. Pablo gets me every time.
This right here is why the format is dying... way too many ad spots, but they need that revenue to keep the stations afloat (along with pay rights fees to local teams). Ratings are down across the board. This guy doesn't do anything different or "special" that will bring new listeners in. If you're a sports-radio listener who either was dedicated to Charlie, or chose 610, why would you ever make the switch to Josh Innes?
I don't get it. Everyone'a acting like Charlie had this huge following. Josh read the stats himself on air (because of course he did). Charlie's show had TERRIBLE ratings. Stop trying to elevate Charlie to something he clearly wasn't. Dude was unbelievably boring.
He had a following. If you compare what ratings were 5 years ago to where they are now, across all stations, they are terrible. Josh Innes isn't going to fix the inherent issues with AM radio with his schtick.
I've already explained this but I'll try again. Charlie's ratings sucked because 790 is not the home of the Texans. At the same time the Astros and Rockets have not been yearly contenders and in the Astros case the worst team for a long while. 610 isn't substantially "better" or have better talent. Josh Anus ratings will also suck compared to 610 and again it has nothing to do with on air "talent." We're in football country and the ratings follow the Texans. One other very important factor is KILT (610) was the first and has a long history (70+ years) in Houston. For many years it was the ONLY sports radio in town. They are an institution and on top of that they are partnered with the Texans. The only thing that will break 610's dominance is if they lose the Texans period.
I still have not listened to the new show, nor will I. Sucks, because I've been 790 only for a long time. I want sports talk, not garbage. Charlie had substance, which is lost across the board today whether it be radio or tv.
He is going off on 610 right now. I just want to listen to sports. Nothing about sports so far. This sucks.
Yet, he has more knowledge than anyone else on the air, and he was as unbiased and realistic with his expectations and analysis as humanly possible. If you want to listen to real talk and critical analysis, there is no one better.
He was the only sports host who actually watched all the games. Maybe Seth and Mike do to, but the it seems like most of the hosts don't even watch the games except the Texans.
