Needing to book one night in a really nice hotel in town to celebrate an anniversary. I just booked at Hotel ZaZa for just over $400, so I would say that is the most I'd like to spend. If anyone is able to recommend somewhere cheaper/better or more interesting I'll cancel that reservation.

We'll only be staying one night, and we can't leave the city due to prior engagements. No need for any nearby night life, but would like to be close to daytime activities (the main reason I initially chose ZaZa).

If you don't mind driving up north a bit you could try the Marriott on the Waterway or Woodlands Resort which has tennis, golf, spas, etc... Also, nearby is the Hyatt Market Street which is more shopping. Happy Anniversary, wherever you all stay hope you have a great time.

La Colombe D'or is just down the street from Zaza and is a great little place. The Zaza can sometimes be a sh+t show and the service isn't always that great. There is also the Houstonian, which is hard to go wrong with. Those are the usual suspects when family/friends come into town.

Just celebrated our 15th at The Sam Houston. Not sure of the exact cost because I had Hilton points to burn. Room was nice and service was good.

    I second this.

Also, if you like Historical Hotels, I'd recommend the Lancaster downtown, which is romantic-walk distance to the Arts Theatres (Jones and Alley) for Symphony, Ballet, Musicals/Theatre and Opera, if you want to catch a show, plus Market Square.

If you're looking for somewhere nice that you don't have to leave to enjoy, I'd go with the Houstonian.

Happy Anniversary! I don't have any recommendations as I would have suggested the Zaza.

Thanks for all the suggestions so far, I'll be checking them out.

Any experiences with Hotel Sorella or the San Luis in Galveston?

San Luis is nice, does have a section of condos which is separate from the hotel but share the pool and amenities. Beach front, close to groceries and restaurants, however I wouldn't pick it over anything mentioned prior unless you're looking for an excuse to go to Galveston

    Is the Lancaster still around?
