You may be right, although Mackovic might have something to say about that. The 3 seniors who play are godawful, the youngsters aren't ready or aren't coached up enough or something.
lol Mayfield almost cost OU the game. That said, when you have to rely on lucky breaks to win, you are not doing your job. Deserved loss.
Charlie should have taken over that on that bye week. You can't make much of a difference in a week. It's hard to see him recovering now. That defense... Maybe now people will stop blaming Mack Brown for Charlie Strong's struggles.
He had enough time, they play too soft on D, no pressure on the QB, if you line is not getting through BLITZ from all over - Strong is just not a good coach, he is a guy who is a nice D1 coach for a mid sized program but he is not the attention to detail all consuming coach that UT needs. An elite program needs an elite coach, Strong is not it.....look at Sumlin and how quickly he did the job at A&M, look at Herman at UH, Strong is a mid tier coach - not good enough. DD
I was not all that impressed with Sterlin Gilbert in any of the games this season. His playcalling is too predictable. Gilbert was exposed today as an overrated OC. He's better than Watson, but still not all that good. Not sold on him as the long-term answer at Texas. Strong had already lost me after last week's game.
Crazy that the team seemed more focus and tackled better overall, yet the results were the exact same if not worse.
Not sure what you're expecting on offense. With a true freshman QB and now missing their star RB, they've scored 40+ 4 times this season (and 30+ every game). They scored 40 points 4 times in all of 2014 and 2015 combined. It's probably their best offense since Colt McCoy. The problem with this team is defense and special teams.
A little better after today, all joking aside. UH needed that perfect season for a shot at the playoffs. If the Big 12 doesn't expand, then it's just a matter of firing Strong and entering the bidding war. But going to remain a pessimist until I see otherwise. The athletic department has just made mistake after mistake, where I have very little confidence in anything they do.
Other people on Texas fan sites are saying Herman sucks because he couldn't beat Navy. Pure insanity.
I still want this team to win out. There's still a slim chance to salvage the season. They better beat Iowa State though. That's must win.
As unreasonable as this sounds, winning out would be the only way to salvage the season. But if the defense continues to struggle, things could get ugly fast. Especially with BU, WV, and TCU at home. But ya it all starts with Iowa State. A game I think we will win but not a gimme by any means.
