SCOTT STOSSEL: We don't make political endorsements lightly. And so you know, we've historically in those two instances you mentioned only endorsed a president where we felt that the stakes had been elevated to a true national emergency or an existential threat to the Republic. And potentially in this case, at any rate, the stakes are as high as they were in 1860 when we endorsed Lincoln over Breckinridge and 1964 when we endorsed Lyndon Johnson over Barry Goldwater.

    Against Donald Trump

For the third time since The Atlantic’s founding, the editors endorse a candidate for president.

What is this? More elites running scared of President Trump doing everything they can to prevent him stopping their gravy train? I think it's amazing and historic that so many pillars of our civil society have gone to exceptional lengths to denounce Trump's candidacy. And, I hope they make a difference on the incremental swing voter. But you know there's a bunch of Trump diehards who see this stuff and tell themselves, "Trump must be doing something right if he has so many establishment people so scared!" (Never mind that newspapers and journalists are not exactly getting rich from the system today.)

I'm sure this does re-enforce the idea of the elite media to some Trump supporters. Nothing you can do about that.

Maybe the appeal of Trump by his fans is the harem of contestant rejects he keeps around him.

One of my relatives, by marriage, basically said the same thing when I posted on Facebook the Clinton endorsement from the AZ Republic and Dallas Morning news. His response went something along the lines "arrogant elite media, looking down there noses at people like me!"

Bono (playing concert with U2) to Trump (pointing to video screen while on stage)..."YOU'RE FIRED!". I hate it and love it at the same time when musicians bring politics into concerts. I remember being at the Roger Waters concert where they played Dark Side of the Moon in its entirety in Dallas. He kept making political comments in between songs and then...near the end of the concert...they dropped thousands of tiny pieces of paper with "Vote for Obama!" written on them. I remember some of his comments actually riled parts of the crowd and they were flipping Roger off while yelling back at him. It was comical watching people get all bent out of shape over it. But, it was also slightly annoying given we were there for the music and not to hear who Roger wants you to vote for.

I've visited some offices of a number of newspapers recently. Those guys are pretty smart, but there's nothing elite about the state of their businesses. I wanted to tip them so maybe they could buy some furniture or something. Maybe they are intellectual or educational elites, but given what newspaper guys get paid nowadays (and the job stability they enjoy) these Trump supporters who feel like they are getting looked down on probably are doing better financially -- and I'm thinking about the blue-collar voters with no college education. Maybe you can look at NBC News and write them off as elitists, but it strikes me as bizarre to write off newspaper reporters that way. The editor of the AZ Republic or Dallas Morning News is far more a man of the people than Donald Trump is.

Bono's not a citizen, so I'd prefer he kept his opinions to himself. I think it's fine to say who he prefers, just like it's fine for Theresa May and Vladimir Putin to say who they'd prefer. But, to be campaigning in his act is like having foreign nationals donate to US presidential campaigns, except that he's paying in-kind instead of with cash.

When I was in highschool and listened to punk sometimes. I went to quite a few shows and they were always very political. That is to be expected though I assume.

Rinse Pubis's tactic of doubling down on Trump with Total GOP compliance will backfire when, in a fit of being a sore loser, Donald throws all remaining ether about the system he can imagine on Nov.9 and cause more distrust, doubt, questioned legitimacy in the government.

Of course, it'll be Obama's fault for being the most divisive and racist President in American history.

I give it a 50% chance...We've already seen GOP rising darling, Mike Pence, calmly deny any responsibility like a psychopath on trial, so they can pretend they were just following orders by one insane man who just happened to take control of the party.

Maybe that's why all of them clamped down on Ted's nuts. Partisans tend to forgive and forget after 6 months. GOP doesn't want Ted to remind everyone what they already know.

    lol...Rinse Pubis

He's got about 32 days of a job left. Assuming Trump loses and they lose seats in the House and Senate, Pubis will be on the unemployment line come Nov 9th.

For what it's worth, music and rock in particular has always been political...
