This team will never win anything with Brock Osweiler at QB!

I'm stating how he has done, not predicting how he will do. That's not rushing to judgment.

BTW, it's interesting that B'OB's system was considered QB friendly when journeymen Fitzpatrick and Hoyer were putting up 90QBratings. Now it's really complex, even though he has better weapons.

It's not the previous CBA. We're at a disadvantage to teams paying rookies on rookie deals, not us paying a rookie huge dollars.

The contract is fair games once we have a handle on Brock's ceiling. To break it out after four games is ludicrous, as in making up narratives about the offseason the Texans *could* have had if they hadn't signed Brock (which is what you're doing...)

So a QBR of 89.4 would be a failure? And, again - those guys were long-time veterans and/or long-time veterans of the system. Week 10, meanwhile, would mark Osweiler's 17th career start; so basically, in terms of games played, the start of his second season - are you really going to draw a definitive conclusion about - well, any QB after 16 NFL starts?

My bar is better weeks 9-16 than 1-8; see where we are.

Who's ever called it "QB friendly"? The general consensus has always been that it is complex. I believe Fitzpatrick called it one of the more complicated systems he's ever run.

No, we're not... again, every team has high-dollar assets.

Yup, no one has ever said that actually, but it goes against the narrative. The talk has always been about how complicated it was and that was the justification for bringing in people like Fitz and Hoyer who while pretty bad at football, knew the system. The thought was that no first year player in the system would be able to run it properly.

First, if Brown isnt 90% of his old self, he'll be let go by the end of the year. Where do you go at LT at that point? You want a rookie LT protecting Brock's blindside? Therefore, Brown's contract is really irrelevant...he wont be on the books after this season unless he's playing incredibly well...

Second, Okung can be cut after this season with very little cap ramifications. Not sure if you're familiar with his contract, but the Broncos can let him go this offseason and not blink an eye.

Third, Im just using Okung as an example. Last I recall, there were other offensive lineman available...Osemele, Glenn, Mathis, our own Brooks, etc...

And again, the entire point is that you're saying signing Brock is irrelevant to the offensive line, which is false. There is a salary cap and every single signing, prevents you from signing another player.

And finally, just so I dont get this turned back on me...I have no issues with the signing of Brock. It had to be done. Of course, I think if the Texans knew Paxton Lynch would be available in the draft, they wouldnt have signed Brock, but that's not a risk you can take. We had the opportunity for Brock and it was the right move for the franchise.

And for great teams, the high-dollar assets don't give mediocre production.

Maybe not a failure, but definitely a disappointment. I would expect to get a lot more out of Brock than we got out of Fitz and Hoyer (the guys that got crapped on by 98% of the fanbase the moment they stepped on the field)...I dont think my expectations are unrealistic.

And the "he's only played 16 games" excuse isnt as relevant in today's NFL as it was a decade or two ago. There are plenty of examples of players, with even less experience (on field + film room + practice) than Brock, who have transitioned much better when they stepped on the field. 1/3 of the NFL is basically littered with these QBs. And again, that's fine, I dont expect Brock to dominate...but I also expect him to play better than he has shown so far, even if it's just 12 games into his career...I expect to see improvement, and he is still the same QB he was during his first start in Denver as he was in his 4th start with Houston (I've watched every single one of his starts). If there is any concern, it's that. He has potential because he can flash some good things, but he has to eliminate his mistakes...and so far, he hasnt been able to shake that. When I say I give him until week 10...Im not asking him to be God, Im just wanting to see him eliminate his bad tendencies.

Brock's interceptions are beginning to worry me.
I need a string of interceptionless games

They should bother you. He locks on a receiver and forces things. He doesn't see the field well and doesn't process defenses well. That can improve over time, especially young quarterbacks.... but the ability to read and react has to be there, and thus far I have seen nothing promising in that regard. The physical package is fine, his accuracy is so-so but promising, his athleticism in the pocket is fine, his arm strength is fine.

Either he stops tunnel vision or smart/well coached teams will destroy him. Look no further than the Patriots and their ability to confuse him.

Mostly agree, except I'd say "so-so" accuracy is being generous. He's pretty good with the deep ball, but other than that.... not sure if accuracy is ever really improved.

Still hoping for the best, and maybe he rises up soon.

And this is what I was alluding to earlier...you nailed it with your description. He hasnt changed in this regard since his first game in Denver. I agree that he can improve on this, but I've yet to see any improvement over the course of his 11 starts. But we arent allowed to analyze things here unless we're talking about peachy things...we dont want Bobby to call us whiners.

Don't worry, I've given up on any hopes that you might provide some interesting or accurate analysis. I'm just letting you run wild with the ridiculous BS.

Eh, not worried about your opinion...I havent missed a game Brock has played. I know that I havent seen much improvement from him. He's still adjusting to a new system, so he gets some more time. He has a lot of work ahead of him just to get himself into the middle of the pack for QBs. Sorry, I dont need to subscribe to the notion that Brock has played very well to be considered a Texans fan.

I accept that you think that and hope that some day you learn to see more when you watch a football game. Carry on.

So just for the record...you're saying Brock has played well?

Overall, yeah. He's had problems with turnovers, half of them his fault, half of them not his fault but the positives outweigh the negatives and anyone who knows what they are watching should realize that he's been better than anything the Texans have had since before Schaub broke down.

Of course those who get all of their football knowledge from what PFF says might not realize that though.

Does Football Outsiders not know what they're talking about? In fact, can you show me any article or analyst talk about how he's played well? Surely, you're not the only one with this opinion, right?

Other than looking the part and throwing a good deep ball, what has Brock done well? He's had turnover issues, accuracy issues, locking on receivers issues, missing open receivers issues, etc... Interested to know what he's done well and how, overall, he's had more positives than negatives.

What this comes down to is that it sounds like you read a lot of what others think (FO PFF) while I actually know enough to see things myself. I'm not concerned with what FO or PFF have to say honestly. If you look at the plays and you know enough to see what actually is going wrong, then you wouldn't care what they have to say either. I mean, it's sometimes interesting to see what they have to say, but they certainly don't replace actually knowing what you are talking about.

I honestly don't understand how you can watch a play where QB A throws the ball into WR B's hands only to then see DB C rip the ball from him......and then you blame the QB.

I also don't see how you could watch a play where QB A throws the ball to WR B only to have WR B tip the ball up in the air into DB C's hands....and then blame the QB.

Maybe it's a problem with understanding cause and effect, I'm not sure.

It seems Brock is shying away from throwing to Hopkins due to his poor throwing game vs Patriots. Looks like he can't get that out of his head.
