For someone who prides himself on calling other people "son" and asserting pseudo-authority, you sure comes across like a schoolgirl sometimes. Dweeb? What is this, 1985? Time to get out the Brothers in Arms CD.
Haha Pence can't do anything but defend the terrible things Trump has said. Kaine is destroying Pence.
Pence wins on arguing why his political points should be embraced. Pence loses though because he just cannot defend the top of his ticket. Kaine loses because he keeps interrupting Pence. Kaine wins because he can simply read Trump quotes the entire debate and say we don't do that.
A friend of mine just pointed out that Pence just defended Trump by admitting he's a moron who can't control himself.
He goes "well he's not a polished politician like you or I". He first tried to go with the "he never said that" but then remembered he did say that. Dagger
Far less embarrassing of a debate last week's, so that's an accomplishment. Pence came off fine, but it's an uphill battle for him having to defend (or...not defend?) Trump. I thought Kaine came off as pretty unlikeable, but as many have said, all he has to do is denounce Trump, and he's golden.
His whole game plan was to just repeat every dumb thing trump has said... and he did that. Too bad he didn't get the PTSD comments out there.
It is a shame. Trump has simply said too many dumb things to repeat them all. Within a week after the election I'm sure you will be able to fine articles that have a "We Will Miss Trump, Top 100 Quotes"
Saw this on Reddit and I agree. Kaine was debating to be Vice President in 2016 Pence was debating to run for President in 2020 Pence does not see Trump winning this.
I think Pence was probably a smoother debater than Kaine. He was slightly more poised. Too much cross talk from both of the guys. Kaine started the interrupting, and then Pence followed suit an equal amount. It made it hard to watch. The problem is that both of these guys were just surrogates arguing for their candidate. So while Pence was stylistically superior, he didn't have much ground or principal to stand on because Trump is the top of his ticket. Either way, neither candidate hit a knockout blow or did anything that will change the direction of the Presidential race.
Pence was literally made to look like a Cuck. Refused to defend his running mate at all. Trump will explode tonight on Twitter
Pence definitely looked more comfortable out there... but he looked bad defending trump. Too bad he's not behind a decent candidate.
Pence probably sees more gain playing both angles but with a definite eye towards a bigger seat. It's why his time and spotlight focused more on his thoughts, whereas Kaine included Hillary in the responses about his personal beliefs. While Kaine dirtied his hands, Pence played calm, cool and "presidential"...even he can't win more than a few primaries. Mike joined the team, but he clearly hasn't drunken the Kool-Aid.
How do you begin to think he could defend him? He obviously had to know these quotes were coming. I doubt he planned on saying that Trump is not a polished politician. Perhaps someone was right when they said he plans on running in four years.
Really poor performance tonight by Tim Kaine. He's a very knowledgeable guy, especially on foreign policy, and Hillary had a strong lead with five weeks to go before the election. So why on earth would you want to be an aggressor and give Trump any sort of momentum when the risky strategy failed? I thought Clinton-Kaine were going to want to make this debate a snooze fest (and it was in some ways), but the most important thing was not to give the other side a decisive victory. Kaine put a lot of pressure on Hillary for the next debate.
