    Thanks for correction

But rescinding rights to just Othyus Jeffers gets you back to $12.351m. And they can keep Tayshaun Prince.

    Current cap:
11,370,692 (since Sept 8th signing of Rudez took $1.199m off the books)
+ $980,000 (rescinding rights to Jeffers vet min)
    ---------------
    $12.351m x 3 years = $37.053m

The fact it is so easy to get cap room that exactly equals the fan speculation rumor, means to me that there is no source to this rumor other than fans playing with numbers.

Pek will most likely be amnestied next summer/fall. As such he can be included in a trade.

I guess it comes down to how bad they'd want DMo or anyone else to help them compete THIS year.

Also, others have pointed out that they wouldn't need to cut Pek to make the offer.

Anyway, the Wolves already have 4/5 front court players...Kat, Dieng, Aldrich, Bjelica, Hill...do they really need to risk a double digit 3/4 year deal for D.Mo?

Don't forget 4.5% raises. A starting salary for a 3-year, $37 million deal with max raises (for a non-incumbent team) is just over $11.8 million.

Yep. Mentioned the max offer with raises in my first post discussing a 3yr/$37m offer -- link to post here ... another reason to say this is fan speculation playing with numbers, because they forgot the 4.5% raises, a more difficult calculation.

But then again, BJ Armstrong would probably forget the 4.5% raise he could ask for, as well.

Also, KAT is a center so they could use a starting caliber PF.

So is DMo and his broke ass back. Sign a damn contract, stay healthy and prove that you are worth a damn. Tired of the guy, honestly.

I don't think saying 3 years for 37m rumor is forgetting the max raises, it is just passing on a rumor.

Yeah, it looks more and more like DMo has no confidence in his own health. Otherwise, why would he still be looking for a longer contract when it is quite clear that no team is interested? If that's true, then it's just too bad.

I am starting to lean this way. He just needs to accept the QO and give us a mostly healthy, productive season and he will get paid. He will only look worse on the court by missing more pre-season.

Maybe JB is trying to do what Tristan Thompson did last year. He was RFA, let the QO expire, and signed a big contract Oct 20th. But the big difference is Tristan actually had a 5yr/$80m starting point with Cleveland in early July. He was holding out for max, and ended up signing for $82m, not much over what CLE had been offering the whole time.

So really, even with Tristan, holding out didn't get him more money, certainly not an offer sheet from another team.

Point is, nothing in the Random Rockets Trade Thread is considered a rumor. It's just talk among fans, yet China sites report those as rumors. That's all this is. Fans talking about max possibilities somewhere on the internet, hence how the $37m number is so easily calculated (as demonstrated by @craguin and I). And @Mr. Motiejunas saying it is a "rumor -- Yule C" implying a source without a link for us to see for ourselves, doesn't change that.

INB4: There's no proof it isn't a valid sourced rumor, either. And we're back talking like a bunch of basketballholic's.

My guess is that it's not so much about the amount than about the length, although the amount is obviously important too.

No team is going to give him more than a year, maybe two at most, with the unpredictable back issue. He will have to prove himself with a short contract before anybody is going to gamble on him. I hate to say this. If he is not even confident in himself, then he is going to be out of the league pretty soon.
