I said it when the Texans refused to negotiate. It makes sense. His numbers going down this season might cost him some dollars. Not a whole lot but it might drop him from the Brown, Jones, Green tier to the Bryant, Thomas, Beckham tier.
Yep, and he's finding out that when you're the #1 WR and popular target last season, you're going to get covered tighter and he's not dealing with that very well. I think Osweiler is not helping his cause either, but it makes me wonder if it's because Hopkins is a half-step slower than he was last season.
No, your point was that Hopkins isnt an elite receiver...when he just came off a 111 reception, 1500+ yard, 11 TD season. You're basing it on such a small sample size that it makes no sense. Again, Hopkins hasnt deteriorated as a receiver with the snap of a finger...he's every bit as good as he was last season. I'd venture to guess that Julio's numbers would drop if you replace Ryan with Brock...and you had a stud receiver like Fuller on the other side of Julio. Is Julio a better receiver than Hopkins...sure, probably...but they're both worthy of elite money.
I watched it again. Not to sure what I thought about the pass rush since they didn't send many people. They played it like watt was still there at end, by that I mean sending only the minimal on a blitz. The times they did send blitzes, they were run blitzes on obvious running downs. smart game plan and adjustment after the NE game. last season we saw alex smith, Taylor and cam newton break out for long first down runs. Murray, who was projected by all the local experts to go off ended up with 3.8 yards per carry, and his worst performance in the receiving game. Henry also had his worst outing since Minny in rushing and passing. Bouye and hal all day! Had clowney known he was going to be in this role he would have never lost the weight he did. Ninja did pretty well too considering he was away with the shaolin monks all off season and preseason.
For a minute there is thought we were about to blow the doors off. The first two series were so good on both ends. Then the Titans got their stuff together and turning this game in a very competitive one. Our Oline mainly Clark and Newton were horrible. Brock's ticking time clock was altered once he got sacked by Orakpo. Dude beat Clark so bad on that particular play. From that point on Brock wasn't the same. Defensively we just can't stop the run and we tend to give up a big play or two. Fuller is everything I expected him to be. This young man is a gamer. Brock found his TIGHT ends and he found them often. That too me is a pleasant surprise. Miller did exactly what he said he would do, hit the hole with some purpose. Big Wilfork was a beast out there. Overall good divisional win. 3-1 babbyyy
https://www.profootballfocus.com/pro-ten-hou-grades-will-fuller-fiedorowicz-lead-texans-to-win/ Quarterback grade: Brock Osweiler, 42.4 Osweiler has followed an impressive performance in the regular season opener with just an average and two below-average games passing the ball. Against Tennessee, he looked competent early, leading the Texans offense to points on its first three drives, which included a dime to TE C.J. Fiedorowicz in the end zone to cap off the team’s opening drive. Beyond that he otherwise struggled, putting the ball at risk multiple times while faltering against the Titans’ moderate pressure. Both of his interceptions occurred when Osweiler tried to force the ball to a covered DeAndre Hopkins, who was held to one catch on the day. The first interception wasn’t egregious, but was one of multiple poorly-located throws for the Texans’ QB. The second pick and a third dangerous pass at 12:52 of the fourth were plays in which the ball probably should have gone elsewhere. Top offensive grades: WR Will Fuller, 84.9 TE C.J. Fiedorowicz, 83 C Greg Mancz, 81.4 OG Jeff Allen, 76.5 RT Derek Newton, 76.3 Rookie WR steps up in a big way for blanketed star While the Titans defense stifled WR DeAndre Hopkins (four targets, one catch), they couldn’t contain Houston’s other targets, notably WR Will Fuller and TE C.J. Fiedorowicz. Fuller made a huge impact on special teams with his third quarter punt-return touchdown, while on offense caught six of seven targets for 80 yards and a TD. Osweiler’s passer rating was a near-perfect 153.9 on those plays. It was an even better 156.3 on four targets to Fiedorowicz, who hauled in each pass, including an impressive touchdown reception on the team’s opening drive. Other notable performances on Houston’s offense include center Greg Mancz, who surrendered just one pressure in 38 pass-blocking snaps, while making several positive blocks in the run game. Conversley, the left side of the line struggled with both LT Chris Clark and LG Xavier Su’a-Filo grading below average overall — Clark for his four surrendered pressures and Su’a-Filo for his work as a run blocker after struggling against Titans’ DTs Karl Klug and Jurrell Casey. Top defensive grades: CB A.J. Bouye, 86.1 ILB Benardrick McKinney, 85.4 S Quinton Demps, 82.4 NT Vince Wilfork, 81.3 OLB Whitney Mercilus, 77.2 Bouye shuts down Titan’s passing game, Wilfork stuffs the run A former undrafted free agent, CB A.J. Bouye is starting to make a name for himself this year with the Texans. He was targeted six times in coverage today, giving up just one reception for 11 yards while breaking up two passes. Through the first month of the season he has given up six catches on 15 targets for just 38 yards while breaking up four passes. NT Vince Wilfork was up to his usual stinginess inside, as he had two run stops, forced Tennessee running backs to cut back on multiple runs and even posted a pressure off a straight bull rush. PFF Game-ball winner: WR Will Fuller
I know it's early but the Texans are looking like foo.s for passing on Derek Carr simply bc of his last name. I'm still holding out hope for Oz to become more consistent but Carr is looking like a perennial pro bowler. To think that this organization made a franchise altering decision based solely on a shared last name is insane.
Defense held up despite a weaker pass rush for obvious reasons. Another thing to note is Texans are -3 in turnover differential, tied for 25th. Since turnovers can be bad luck, this could turn around going forward
The self-loathing in this thread from Texan fans is a little disturbing. I'm not saying we're going to go 15-1 and win the Superbowl this year.....but man. You would think we're 0-4 by reading this thread. Yes, we still have issues just like every other team in the league. But we've won 10 of our last 13 regular season games. A little skepticism is fine and healthy, but some of you guys need to take a strong laxative or something....
The sad-sacks are definitely coming out of the woodwork and we are 3-1 so be prepared for more of the same.
I didn't see the game, only highlights on Red Zone, so my question is: was the play calling better this game than previous games (since BoB took over)?
Once their defense adjusted we became stagnant, but we saw a good offense for the first time in years.
