I think he was referring to last season when Hoyer, Weeden, and Yates were able to get Hopkins the ball more often.
Yeah, I was just taking a dig at Bobby who continually claims that Hoyer is the worst QB in NFL history.
I was only a fan of Hoyer when it came to deciding between him and Mallett...and Hoyer was decent during the regular season for us, just like he was decent for the Bears.
Fair enough, that's an example of bad judgement and inaccurate history, but I accept it's probably what you think.
was going to post this, seems like either Hop isn't winning the battles he used to, or Brock is overestimating what he was ever capable of (orBrock is not as accurate as previous Texans' QBs) most of the interceptions can be cleaned up by frankly targeting Hopkins less
To me, it's kinda half and half their faults. Brock hasn't thrown many accurate balls Hopkins's way and is often times forcing it while there's coverage. Hopkins is popping those balls up and not defending the inaccurate balls well. Both should work together on improving things and hopefully not be pointing fingers. Plenty of blame to go between both of them.
Well he doesn't have many routes to run that are deceptive. Get him in the slot on occasion, run crossing routes, target him deep on post routes like the ones Hop burned Revis with last year. Just seems like everything is 10-15 yard in or an out when he is lined up at the sideline basically. Osweiler throwing to the sides is not ideal. I think the middle of the field is where Os will chew up defenses. Then he can get more comfortable using the outside of the field. Do some double and even triple moves. Hopkins has quick feet and great route running ability. His routes are too predictable though especially for a corner AND a safety to key in on. Get him moving around the formation, get him in motion. Do something. He is too good of a weapon not to be used effectively. If I am O'brien that is my #1 goal this week to figure out ways to get Hopkins some space. Line Fuller in the slot and Hopkins on the same side. Run a rub route where Fuller crosses by Hopkins and the safety has to commit, do I go with Fuller or Hopkins? This isn't rocket science. I have faith O'brien will work on some of these plans to get him and Os going. QFT by concerned Hopkins Fantasy owner and Texans fan.
I heard kurt warner make the point in the giants game on the radio, that the giants were more responsible for defending beckham jr than the vikings were, by not having him line up in different formations and making it easy for the defense.
Hopkins and osweiler need to get out and take tons of snaps... 6 INT is a lot but when nearly all of them is because of targeting hops- something is amiss. Maybe that's why the INT is NOT getting to me as much because it seems to be individual issue more than anything
BOB has been VERY creative in finding ways to get the ball in Fuller's hands. If he could now focus on using some of that creativity for Hopkins, I think we'll see a drastic change in the way things are going. Move him around, give him different looks, and make defenses compensate for the fact that every route is a possibility.
I agree. They can (and should) call plays that will be easy catch plays for Hopkins. 8-10 yard plays probably. It will be practice for the two and will open things up downfield.
Hopkins will have to generate some separation from the guys covering him and run proper routes for that to happen. So far this season they've tried to make some timing routes work to Hopkins that are essentially impossible to defend if run properly but that's proven a bad idea. Hopkins is simply going to have to generate some separation or he needs to be nothing more than a decoy.
Osweiler is officially the ONLY QB in the NFL that can turn Hopkins into a pedestrian WR. Sad that some horrible fans would even think to blame Hopkins for not performing. One WR has a All-Pro track record and history of being a beast. Hopkins instantly started catching balls and being a factor again as soon as Savage went in.
Hopkins looked great He only dropped the TD because he was shocked at getting an accurate pass on time in the endzone
