Since FIDE is not FIFA and would not be able to bribe Iran to change an almost 40 year policy mandating the head scarf for women, FIDE is the one who screwed this up. If you do not want your players to wear mandated Hijabs, then you should not have chosen a repressive autocratic theocracy to host your championship.

It should be noted that Iran was the only country that put forth a proposal to host the women's chess championship.

It's like the Baptists here in Texas... telling me when and when I can't buy alcohol. They'll never stop me from dancin'!

And for a brief period the French were forcing women to be half naked on beaches, taking away their basic right to being fully clothed in public. Where was your outrage then?

That was pathetic. And there was a lot of outrage.

That does not make this any less pathetic.

There is a difference between "being fully clothed" and ostentatively wearing symbols of oppression and of rejection of the local culture.

Until these barbaric countries get with modern standards they should not be considered for any hosting of a major event.

Chess is a board game - not a physical sport. Why would anyone setup a women's only tournament and why would anyone participate in such a tournament? It's so much like the Iranians to, in such a nuanced way, claim that women are intellectually inferior to men.

Considering that this never happened, there was no outrage.

Who ****ing cares? I'm forced to wear clothes everyday in America. If I don't, I'll get arrested. This is so stupid. Oh, hijab is not on your favorite clothes list with pants and shirt? I guess that's your cultural bias.

Guess what: women are forced to wear clothes in America too. I can walk down the street with no shirt on. If a woman does that, she will be arrested. It's oppression of women! Do you give a ****? No. This is just another ethnocentric "everyone do our way or we'll kill you" thread.

They shouldn't be holding it in Iran.
