Having veto power when Morey is the GM is nice to have.

Don't think Morey will allow that to happen. Expect him to make moves to avoid it.

Which has always been DMo's leverage. He's hoping Morey likes flexibility enough to give him a decent 3 year deal.

Morey has no choice. Unless he can offer a deal to DMO good enough to pass up on free agency in 2017.

is it possible for DM to also withdraw the qualifying offer altogether at this point?

Don't see how the qualifying offer is better than the rumored 2 yr 16 million deal with 2nd year non guaranteed, we heard about earlier in the thread.

At this point it seems pretty clear that DMo is going to be a Rocket this season. The only thing that's up in the air is the contract situation, whether it's going to be the QO or a multi-year deal.

You wasn't saying this last year. You were very convinced that he will get a fat contract. 15+ a year.

Welcome to the world of DD. He's wrong until he is right. And then he was right all along.

I could be wrong. But I think without a QO, the player becomes URF. Why would a team do that?

What? It is more money this year, but ties himself next year to the team - he would be better served to sign the QO and have more ownership of where he plays.

4.4 this year, then an UFA next year when salary caps go up 8-10m.

While I don't recall saying that - I do think that is around his market value if he was an UFA, and completely healthy, and probably will be next year.

Yes, that is true if Morey rescinds the offer. Like you say, why would he do that at the 11th hour and make him a full UFA, vs negotiating if he fears DMo will sign it against his wishes.

to part ways with a mediocre player who can't be traded and could end up a distraction just looking to get his numbers this season
