Why blame BOB or Smith on this??? JJ wanted to show the world he was superman and that hes a miracle healer, that nobody has comeback from this kind of surgery before so soon, that he contemplated retiring but came back to perform at a high level. If anything, this is his own fault and his manager/pr team. He ultimately cost himself a chance a good run as well as the teams chances.
Both parties are at fault, but as the HC, you've got to have the balls to sit down your star player and do what's best for the team
Because they have to have foresight and the balls to tell the star player no. You can't have players run the show no matter how good they are. I say put him on IR and bring him back for the playoffs if we make it.
Maybe the dumbest organization in sports. Fire a coach who wins the super bowl 2 years later and then get the best defensive player in the league seriously injured. And pay tons of money to a mediocre QB.
Huge blame is the defense sucking. Texans tried to baby Watt for the Bears game, but the defense struggled early... then Watt made his entrance.
****. This is on JJ for wanting to come back so soon, and BOB for not having the balls to tell him no.
Texans medical staff deserves blame too because they have to be the ones who clear him before he can step onto the field..
I hope to never again hear "Player X knows their body", it seems like every time that gets said, bad things happen.
everyone "knew" Watt would be hurt and came back too soon. Didn't see much about it. Nor have I heard complaints when he's returned too quickly in the past and seemed like a freak of nature. It sucks. But the hindsight here is ridiculous. Even if you were concerned because it was back surgery, that doesn't equate to "I KNEW this would happen and it was wrong!!!" It was a risk, as is coming back from any injury at any time. If he came back after sitting out for 4 games and then got hurt, would it still be an awful organization? What he if didn't get hurt at all--is the org suddenly an amazing prognosticator? They made a decision based on the person and the medical information they had, and it went badly. I don't see (yet) a medical staff saying the Texans were morons and medically it was a ridiculous call. But maybe that will come out and I'll eat my words..
This. This is on both J.J. & the staff. I hope it was worth it! Sometimes you gotta protect the player from himself, especially for a guy who pushes the limits and does 110% in everything he does. July 21: Reported he has back surgery 46 days later, September 5: Passes physical, returns to practice 52 days later September 11: Plays in first game vs. Bears Playing in games less than two months after surgery?
It's not hindsight, a lot of people were concerned and there are posts to prove it. This organization is short sighted. Everyone in it, from the coaches to trainers to Gm, are just trying to save their asses for another year
This is, at least, the second HUGE mistake by the medical staff. The first....... Ed Reed Still haven't replaced Quinn.
