Public condemnation? We are talking about people being murdered - not condemned. Freedom of speech is something that goes beyond the border of the United States - dare I say it is a "western" value? I sometimes substitute "social harmony" in place of "western values" to avoid any possible shitstorm for using that term. Anyways... The people who were murdered at Charlie Hebdo did NOT deserve to be murdered. I do find their drawings of some guy's butthole to be disgusting, and I most definitely will not say "We are Charlie". Still that does not justify their murder. I find the lies of the BLM co-founder "despicable", but I am certainly not going to strap on a suicide vest or take up arms because I disagree with what she says.
I shop at this mall regularly. I just drove by it today. Macy's is directly by the freeway and there was a cop guarding the front door. The parking lot was still taped off, but there were a few cars in the lot that had not been retrieved yet. I ate at a restaurant next door today and a customer was packing a pistol on his belt.
And we still don't know his motive. If I have to guess at this point, I think this is more likely a mental issue than terrorism. I'm sure we will know more later. A motive for the attack, or whether Cetin acted with any accomplices, was also unclear. Some published reports described an ex-girlfriend who worked at Macy’s but left months ago. “No indications yet [of either terrorism or that he did not act alone] but the case is still open, it’s still active so anything is possible. Anything could change,” Francis said. “It’s hard for me to figure out a motive,” echoed Mayor Steve Sexton of Burlington. We do know that he has been in trouble with the law. Cetin has been in and out of court over the last two years, most recently for a drunk driving charge. In 2014 and 2015, he was charged three times with assaulting his step-father, court records show. As of May, court records also suggest that Cetin may have been working as a dishwasher and attending college. A notation in those records on August 25 indicate that he was receiving some type of weekly counseling. The court records refer to alcohol, substance abuse and mental health evaluations. They include notes stating that Cetin “was in treatment” or receiving “counseling” as far back as a year and a half ago.
He was a "legal permanent resident" that immigrated from Turkey. But I haven't seen anyone verify his ethnicity.
The guy seems to be quite mental and given that he was shouting women's names when he was unloading his weapon - might have been angry at some sort of slight he had experienced.
They reported the information given to them which is what the media should do. The information they received was "Hispanic".
I think this just goes to show that crazy people can be turned into lethal weapons by groups. It's a worrisome sign as I fear ultimately other radical groups will start adopting these types of tactics.
