Should be going to the NRG game as well.

Looking at the schedule, the beginning of the season is pretty bare anyway, with the only homegame prior to Homecoming against Abilene being against Oklahoma Panhandle State. At least we play McNeese and UCA at home. It really isn't a tough schedule though.

Oklahoma Pandhandle, Lamar, Houston Baptist, SFA, Incarnate Word, Abliene Christian, Nicholls, Texas Southern, McNeese, Northwestern State, UCA. None of those are really scary.

I'm glad there's no QB controversy this year. Brisco is pretty much the man. No more shuffling QB's in and out.

We should run the table, but that's what I said before the Lamar home game last year.... We always seem to lay 1 or 2 eggs every year and that ends up making our road to Frisco so much harder.

And yes, I'm going to the NRG game too. Gone every year since they started playing it there. Always a good time!

I wonder why we always finish with UCA. There's no rivalry there. Nothing worse than having to see that horrifyingly ugly purple field on my tv or computer.

That seems to be the double-edged sword of the new SLC. There just aren't that many tough games (on paper) year-to-year, which certainly helps a team get to a record that will put them in playoff contention, but on the other hand, it probably won't do a lot to help at-large chances because it's seen as a soft schedule, and it doesn't do much to help attendance at Bowers, which, as we all know, can be fickle.

Yeah, but opening the season at number 2 should help our chances. Hopefully they don't have any hiccups, but we'll see. Personally I think the team is less focused on Keeler than they were under Fritz, but Keeler seems to turn it up come playoff time.

If anyone boots NDSU out of the playoffs, or beats them in the championship game, SHSU deserves to be the one.

#2 in both the FCS coaches poll and the STATS FCS Top 25 (the poll that actually matters).

Although in that STATS poll we have fewer first place votes (2) than Jacksonville State (4).

Looks like the first 4 games will either be live-streamed on ESPN3 or Fox Sports Go. I thought they working on some sort of deal where all the games would be streamed on Fox Sports Go? Wasn't that a thing?

I thought it was but today's game is ESPN 3...6 pm kick against Oklahoma Panhandle State.

I would expect a fairly large point differential tonight.

Dropped into a tie for 3rd in the Coaches Poll...

    http://www.ncaa.com/rankings/football/fcs

Maybe it's just me...but I'd rather they played a FBS team in the first game to get warmed up. I'm fine with a buttkicking because I think it does more good than it does to beat up on a team like Oklahoma Panhandler State. Doesn't have to be a Texas or A&M...but it could be a Rice or Tx St. At least it would be one more on their level right now than a directional school.

They had New Mexico State Lobos lined up for this season, but it was bought out, so they had to scramble for a new team to play.

I think next year they get Richmond, followed up by years of a home and home with UND.

A win but not as good a win as it should have been. We do a lot of one on one coverage in the secondary and Lamar's (bad) QB burned as a few times with big passes. Also two bad turnovers by Briscoe early on, one bad int and one bad pitch on an option that came to be a fumble.

Still, a W on the road in a conference game is good. Also Corey Avery is really good still, though he had to get helped off the field twice. After the second time they kept him out for good.

Definitely a sloppy win...but a win nonetheless. With NDSUs win @ Iowa, if they weren't the unanimous #1, they should be. They are a decent FBS team right now. I really hope we can finish undefeated and #2 so that we can avoid them until the Championship Game. Every team is beatable in some fashion but they are really good.

Agree that it ended up being far closer than it should have been, but I'm hopeful that the 30-3 lead at half was closer to reality than the eventual final score.

Kudos to the run defense for holding Kade Harrington to 89 total yards and a 3.0 average on 24 carries. Last year in this game, he ran for 230 on the same exact number of carries on the way to rushing for more than 2,000 for the season.

On an aside, I have to wonder if the seat is getting a little toasty for Ray Woodard in Beaumont. I understand giving him a long leash given that theirs was, quite literally, a startup program, but he's had one winning season in his six full seasons at the helm, and barring a huge turnaround this season, they're staring in the face of another losing season here in his seventh. He got an extension after their 8-4 season two years ago, but goodwill doesn't last long in that profession.

I streamed the game and it definitely looked like we took our foot off the gas in the 2nd half. When Lamar got within 37-24 in the 4th, that was a wake up call and we took it right down the field and scored easily to put the game out of reach. Not as close as the score indicated, but yeah....pretty sloppy 2nd half.

PJ Hall was ALL OVER Harrington.

We're still #3 even though Richmond got hammered by unranked Stoney Brook. I guess they're staying at #2 based on their FBS win (Virginia).

NDSU...I keep waiting for them to have a down year. Probably not going to happen. We would probably have 2 nattys by now if not for them. They actually got some top 25 votes in FBS this week. It's no hyperbole to say they are probably a top 25 FBS team. Yet, they're still in FCS........

Think I'm going to take the family to see the game this week @ HBU. Tickets are super cheap ($13 for adults, $5 for kids). It's essentially a small high school stadium or, if you will, roughly the size of Pritchett Field.

Anyone gone to a game there? Is there anywhere to tailgate and, while highly unlikely, do they serve beer?

I actually think I did go to a game there, maybe 2 years ago. Can't remember for sure but I don't believe there was much going on tailgating-wise.

    Here's their policy: http://www.hbuhuskies.com/sports/2014/5/8/GEN_0508144315.aspx

I read that forum too. But I thought I was the only one who thought they acted a little over the top.

Yeah there are like 8 guys who are SUPER dedicated. They're good as far as being active in the crowd and caring about the team, and I sided with them when people would yell at them to sit down (imo if someone wants to stand during a football game they can) but they can be too crude and obnoxious and sometimes too hard on our players, embarrassing others wearing SHSU colors if you're on the road.

Overall they're probably a net positive but... rough around the edges.

The main problem I saw with them, was at last year's BOTPW. One guy appeared pretty drunk, and was literally yelling in the face of other SHSU people to stand and cheer.

It kind of goes both ways, you know. If you want to be left alone while standing and cheering, you have to let people sit if they want too.
