Ethiopia would be the opposite. Nobody has any rights there.

You make the same mistake as above. Africa has little freedom. Total control by drug lords.

Yeah and that's the point. Without government, that's what you get. Knowing that is the difference between Libertarians and Anarchists. Libertarians understand the fundamental need for government in order to give the people rights, Anarchists don't.

Nobody advocates anarchy and that's also not what he said. He said Africa is where you have tons of freedom which is false. You will have your business and money stolen instantly by w/e drug lord walks by. that's not freedom.

But let's also remember that they are all our ClutchFans brothers and sisters. And while we disagree vehemently with them, like you would with a sibling, we are all still a member of the same family.

    However dysfunctional it may be.

I mean, I actually believe the Rockets have a chance to go all the way this year. That shows you how delusional I can be.

    Well....one person here does.

Anyway, the point I was trying to make was that government, in some form, is the only thing that can grant anyone rights. Without it you have the right to do whatever you have the power to do on your own.....like a lot of Africa.

That is freedom. The freedom from a functioning government.

Africa is the example of deregulation. The Drug Lord is what an entrepreneur strives to be thanks to having all the freedom he has.

If the business doesn't want to get his money stolen maybe he should lift himself up by the bootstraps and do something about it.

You have absolutely no idea what you are talking about.

Entrepreneur = Drug Lord.... because capitalism is evil right?

They have plenty of regulations just no government to enforce them, thus chaos.

    Deregulation... sheesh

lol, of course thats freedom. That is perfect freedom.

The drug lord has the freedom to steal your business and money instantly, with no government interference.

No it isn't. forcing me to give up my earnings and business is not freedom.

Wrong. Africa is an example of extreme regulation. The Drug Lord has absolute control over everything including every market. If force is being applied to a market (and it certainly is in Africa) then its not a free market.

You seem to think there is a difference between a drug lord controlling a market and a government. there isn't. Either the drug lord is too powerful for the government to stop in which case he is the government; or the government is ok with it and then he is just an agent of the government (like the military).

None of this matters because either way its absolutely moronic to call the markets in Africa 'free' . Freedom refers to no force being applied, not anyone who wants to can apply force.

The definition of government is the monopolization of the use of force. No individual can use force unless they are the government or are sanctioned to do so by the government (citizens arrest). In the analogy you are giving, the drug lord is the government as he has monopolized the use of force. No this is not freedom.

ungoverned warlordism, dictatorship etc. A poor social contract is still a social contract. The people just had very little to no influence on the terms of the agreement.

ungoverned warlordism is a type of warlord. It is the government but the "ungoverned" indicates the warlord is not working under or within a higher state power. It isn't an oxymoron.

Uh no, thats not the definition of government.

The drug lord is not politically exercising control over members.

The drug lord is not governing.

The drug lord is simply exercising his own freedom at your expense.

    yes he is

    yes he is

AT the expense of my what? freedom you say? Freedom refers to no force being applied, not anyone who wants to can apply force.

People are constantly trying to escape Africa because they don't have freedom, and then there is some college freshman students in America talking about all the freedom in Africa........
