It's interesting reading this thread as Cal Alum who was tearing my hair out over Cal's performance. How y'all feel about UT's performance is how many of us feel about the Sonny Dykes Golden Bears.

We have this incredible gimmicky offense but a pathetic D that looks afraid to tackle at times. It's one of the reasons why teams like USC, UCLA and Stanford have beaten us by playing tough smash mouth ball control game.

That said I'll still gladly take this win. Both teams had their chances and both teams made big plays and some very big mistakes. The difference though is that Cal's D stepped up just enouch to get those two picks and stiffened up a little bit more in the run game. Understandably from the Longhorn's perspective it seems like Strong should've ran the ball much more but even against a sad D playing one dimensionally is an invitation for trouble. If there hadn't been a threat of a play action fake the Cal safety might not have bitten on that run that allowed 33 to score the 47 yd TD.

For those of you getting upset about the Longhorn's D consider this too that there is a reason why Goff was the #1 pick and a host of Cal receivers and backs are in the NFL. This team is built for offense and is based off of the Air Raid O of Texas Tech from 12 years ago. That Cal routinely puts up 40+ points is no surprise. Unfortunately that they routinely give up 40+ also is no surprise either.

It was an exciting and nerve wracking game which I'm glad my team won but my objective takeaway is that both these teams have some big problems and are still a ways away from contending for the playoffs.

It was pretty confusing to me too but apparently that's the rule.
Also it wasn't PAC-12 referees looking to give Cal the home conference edge but it was a BIG 12 referee.

    http://www.espn.com/college-footbal...s-texas-controversial-goal-line-fumble-ruling

[rquoter]Cal running back Vic Enwere appeared to score a game-sealing touchdown with 1:22 left, but replays showed Enwere dropped the ball before crossing the goal line. Texas safety Dylan Haines picked up the ball a short time later, but not quickly enough, according to Big 12 referee Mike Defee.[/rquoter]

Also Sonny Dykes is way more forgiving of a coach than me. If it as me I would've made Enwere running stadium steps right away for that.

that's what i keep saying. these coaches don't seem mad enough. this is literally the most inexcusable mistake you can make. it involves the most points (a touchdown), is completely unforced, and is about as selfish as it gets from a "me wanting to celebrate instead of thinking of the team" perspective. granted, i think the other team i saw do it yesterday was alabama, so maybe if even hard-ass saban can knock it out of these kids, then maybe it's impossible.

of course, the refs didn't even notice that one. and the ut/cal play didn't cost cal. and the refs have missed almost every other one i can think of. so maybe the players just know the refs are too stupid to notice it so there's no point in changing.

Exactly. Think of how Nick Saban would react to that garbage. Or even better, Wayne Graham, Rice's baseball coach. LOL, Coach Graham wouldn't play that kid for months, no matter how good he was.

    So, I posted this:

As someone who doesn't have a vested interest either way, 2.5 seconds is a lifetime in terms of going after a loose ball. Since the whistle had blown, the play was dead. Without the immediacy of an attempt at a recovery, there was no change of possession.

How long should they get? What if it were 5 seconds? Should Texas have gotten the ball then?

And someone 'repped' me with this remark:

    Bull****

Not sure if they are referring to the fact that I said I have no vested interest or my interpretation of the rule. It would be interesting to see the person that left me that 'rep' would clarify that. I don't care if UT wins or loses unless it directly affects UH.

but i think it was one of saban's players who did it yesterday and i don't remember saban killing him. so i guess if even saban isn't controlling it then no one is. just weird. hold the ball for 5 yards, then celebrate like crazy. hell, get a 15 yard penalty at that point if you want. i mean not really, but at least the 7 is on the board at that point.

That was the referee they were interviewing talking about what the PAC 12 Replay official told him.

Strong needs to hire a new secondary coach. UT went from DBU to DB wtf. Pathetic.

Why? Tupac was from Oakland just south of Berkeley.

Anyway this is the official fight song for Cal.

Even if that is so it shows that Big 12 referee agrees it was the right call.

I hate to say it but yes we Cal fans have been known to get out of hand during Stanfurd games and USC games. Stanfurd fans do the same.

As for the Cal band playing the opposing team's fight song that is a tradition for big nonconference games and even some conference games. It's a nice touch to help make fans who have travelled a long ways feel welcome.

    So...the D still sucks.

Special teams coverage is absolute garbage.

They went from a hurry up offense in the 1st half that was wearing down the Cal D to a huddle offense in the second quarter. WHY??? This made no ****ing sense.

Shane cannot, or is not allowed to throw into the middle of the field. It's obvious why, as there were at least 2 interceptions dropped.

The changing QB's every other series made zero sense. Not sure if it was due to Shane's injury, but even the announcers were like "wtf are they doing?"

Vance Bedford is a huge bag of dicks. Just ****ing horrible. Fire this guy and Charlie should take over on his own in hopes of keeping his job.

Just a pathetic effort. Especially going to a pass and catch game and going away from the running game to keep Cal off of the field. That made no sense. I'm also SICK TO DEATH OF call reviews. Not one person alive cares to watch a 4 1/2 hour football game. That was ridiculous.

Texas never deserved the #11 ranking, still no idea why they got so much love after one win. If Strong loses more than 1 more game with his class, many horns are gonna be calling for his head LOUDLY this year.

Higdon from scout reporting that there will be changes in the defensive staff soon. Didn't say who or what but Bedford needs to be relieved of play calling duties IMO. Strong should take over, let Gilbert and Traylor handle he offense and do whatever you need to fix the defense.
