He's a failed rapist in possession of a foreign object that committed not-rape but is not rape rape.

 

Under California law, rape requires sexual intercourse. Under California law, sexual intercouse requires penetration of the vagina or genetalia with the penis. Penetration by a foreign object (to-wit: a finger) is therefore not defined as rape. The more you know.

Jacobia Grimes 1 year sentence for $31 worth of candy. It was said that he could receive up to 20 years. He's black as well.

 

That story is obviously highly unfortunate and does show how crappy the system can be.

However he was detained longer in jail because they were trying to transfer him to a psych hospital for his schizophrenia and bipolar.

Guess that jail was not ready to handle a psych patient. They shouldn't have let him die there from refusing food and water. Ridiculous.

 

He also has had 20 prior convictions. You left that part out.

These are two different cases. One guy died in prison while awaiting transfer to a psych hospital for schizophrenia and bipolar. Apparently he refused his food. This story is highly messed up I agree.

I'm not sure I disagree with what happened here if I got the story right.

 

This man wasn't even convicted, let alone sentenced. He was awaiting transfer to the state hospital for competency training after being found not competent to stand trial. Did you even read the article, or was black man dead in jail sufficient?

 

Just out of curiosity, what do you think would be the appropriate sentence for a $31 theft by someone with 24 priors including 8 felonies?

 

Not to get off-topic with this circlejerk, but it is "penetration" not "contact". Meanwhile, a black 25 year-old female used Twitter to distribute death threats from a university computer and only received 90 days of imprisonment. I'm so OUTRAGED!
