Almost all of it was legal though, he's really going to have to change the way he plays the game if he doesn't want to take a beating like a RB. Hopefully self preservation takes hold at some point and he commits to being just a QB. If not, he won't be around much longer.

Well, when a ball is tipped and gets picked off, it's not necessarily a bad throw.

And you're failing to give credit to one of the best defenses in history.

I'd still take him over Mallet though because Mallet completes like 55% of his passes for 5.5 yards per attempt

I guess it just depends on the QB and what narrative is being pushed. The kid played like crap and all I've seen is excuses for him. Other QB's wouldn't be given the benefit of 1000 excuses for poor play.....and they wouldn't be given credit for bubble screens turning into long plays.

If the kid actually plays a good or even mediocre game at some point, I'm all for giving him credit for it, but let's refrain from pretending he did well when he clearly didn't. We'd panic if Brock played that poorly and we wouldn't be making excuses for it.

The last time the Texans played a meaningful NFL game:

    That is horrible

He completed 18 of 26 passes against an elite defense...he sure missed a ton of open passes.

Especially this being his first game as a professional in prime time.

Dude, it was his first game and first professional pass attempt ever. He didnt **** the bed...that alone is pretty good.

And nobody should ever put all the blame on the QB when a ball gets tipped. Maybe some of it, depending on the situation, but definitely doesnt get graded as when the ball is thrown directly to a defender.

If the ball gets deflected by the WR, sure, not all the blame is on the QB, but when a defender gets it, who do you blame? Who made them throw that?

If it's deflected at the line of scrimmage, and gets intercepted, it's more of a fluke than an actual bad pass.

If we credit the defense for batting the ball, does that mean we can't blame the QB? Is JJ Watt awesome or has he just faced terrible QBs that can't always throw the ball past his hands?

It means that it wasn't thrown properly in order to get over the defenders, that's no different then when it is thrown in the wrong place and a DB manages to intercept it. Sure both are defenders making a play, but how the QB threw the ball is what made it possible.

Anyway, it's just interesting what lengths people will go to in order to defend a QB when the national narrative says that they did well despite the evidence to the contrary. If a Texans QB played that poorly we'd be running them down.

You credit the defense for sure...but every QB in the league, doesnt matter who you are, gets balls tipped at the LOS...that doesnt mean the QB made a bad read or that they made a bad throw. It just means the defensive lineman made a good play...and the ball just so happened to fly up in the air get intercepted. The majority of the time, the ball just drops on the ground for an incomplete pass. I wouldnt put too much blame on the QB for that. It's definitely much different than the QB making a terrible read, or throwing into coverage, or throwing directly to a defender for an interception.

No, Ive defended Fitzmagic from the beginning while everyone here (minus you), b****ed about him.

And I wanted nothing more than for the Broncos to get killed because I hate that franchise because of my wife's family.

But, I cant say that someone who went 18-26 for his first start against an elite defense...and put together 2 drives in the 4th quarter to come from behind and win...did a poor job. At worst, he did average, which is much better than they were getting all last season.

The 18-26 was mostly screen passes though. It just wasn't impressive at all and you can't eliminate the fact that he threw 2 picks too. I just think that it's giving him MUCH too much credit but I guess we can give him the benefit of the doubt (that Brock won't get) and wait to see if he continues to suck or if eventually he has a good game.

He was 5-5 on passes that were between 10-20 yards in the air. Again, the narrative being pushed here is by you...he wasnt horrible and he wasnt elite. But, all things considered (first start, playing an elite defense, national TV), he did better than I expected. Rather, maybe the Panthers defense isnt as good as I expected, but I thought the Broncos would be lucky to score more than 13 points.

Fair enough, I'll just say that if Brock doesn't play better than that it'll be a disaster around here with people talking about how he's a "bust" and how the Texans are doomed.

Isn't this the Texans Bears thread. Same people always going off the rails.

Let's get it back on track guys. Go start a thread if you want to argue Donkeys Panthers.
