**** call but Castro could have tried to get to the ball and stopped one of the runs from scoring . I know we got screwed , but the submissive way in which Castro and then hinch argued rubs me the wrong way . Castro could have gotten that ball and stopped a run from scoring . As soon as he stood up and Joyce didn't call it a foul then he should have scrambled for that ball . It's not like it went out of play .
You can't protest a call - has to be an incorrect interpretation of the rules. Oh great, I'm sure they will fix this in the offseason but when we miss the playoffs by one game it won't matter. Go F*** yourself Jim Joyce...been watching baseball all my life and that was one of the worst calls I've ever seen from the actual call to the way they handled it.
At this point, with all of them aging and probably having vision/hearing problems... Should it even be their job anymore?
That play was so beyond obvious that no player is going to assume an umpire is going to miss it. This was like a called strike on a ball in the dirt kind of bad. One of the worst calls I have ever seen.
Lol no ****. You want catchers to scramble for every foul ball that is hit? I know this is unrealistic, but Chisenhall should have shown some integrity and tell the ****ing ump he fouled it. Set an example for kids, be a mensch, whatever. I'm ****ing livid.
Isn't Jim Joyce the same idiot who cost that DET pitcher a no-hitter or a perfect game a few years ago? The same moron that helped put instant replay in place to begin with?
Sure it was . We can complain that they got it wrong or we can try to mitigate the situation once it happens . The Indians announcers knew it was not a reviewable play . Did Castro and hinch not know that ? Obviously hinch needs to go out there and throw a fit . Castro should have played it like it was a wild pitch / passed ball . They could have stopped a run . The game would be 3-2 now despite a bad call . Before the replay days bad calls happened all the time and there was no recourse . It just so happened there was no recourse for this . The umpires should have definitely called a foul ball . The runs are their fault . Still Castro could have reacted and prevented one of those runs.
Yes. And I would bet right now that he has significant hearing issues. To not be able to even HEAR that foul ball (let alone see it) is a huge indictment on one of the biggest black clouds MLB has over them. Manfred wants to be progressive and speed up the game... Yet cannot figure out that you can't go half-ass when it comes to replay review rules and the use of modern technology to get the calls right.
What did y'all want him to do? Start throwing stuff on the field, etc.? This team takes on the nature of Hinch to not panic - getting mad in baseball isn't going to help you.
