Strong has certainly had his bumps but his has shown glimpses of his ability to make big play catches, especially in the end zone. Mumphrey has been overwhelmingly average...and I had high hopes for him early. Yes, he's more or a pros pro type of guy but strong has the big play ability. It's a risk reward situation and mid rather risk Strong's upside versus mumphrey's grit.
Strong has been pretty solid, imo...he has great body control, gets good positioning, and he's also our best RZ target outside Hop. He's also shown good hands. Not sure, other than straight line speed, what weakness he has.
Mumph got a ton of reps in preseason and strong barely got any. Mumph also said that outperformed Hopkins. Mumph had to earn a roster spot while strong didn't.
Where do we see reps? I see Strong was targeted 18 times, caught 10 for 101 yards and 1 TD and 5 first downs. Mumph was targeted 11 times, caught 7 for 149 yards and 1 TD plus 7 first downs. Of course it matters who was playing on both sides at the time.
Mumphrey played strictly against backups and third stringers, while Strong played mostly with and against starters, though he played some with backups. To say that Mumphrey is better than Strong is nothing short of lies to push your anti-O'brien agenda. It's that, or tales from a non-knowledgable football fan. Or both. The fact that you even have an anti-O'brien agenda tells me it's the latter.
Damn. Who is anti-OB? No one can be anti-OB. No One! That man has garnered so much respect around the league its unreal. Not even Penn State boosters are anti-OB anymore after realizing what he did, with how tied his hands were for that program, then leaving for Houston. Every time hes talked about in the media, its always nothing but positives. If anybody is anti-OB, please go do the following: swallow a knife.
It's just your run of the mill Mr. Clutch hot take, no worse than when he's doing his pro-Hoyer nonsense. We complain about local radio personalities and people like Skip Bayless, but we have Mr Clutch who puts all of them to shame with his hot takes.
While I may have preferred Shorts over Mumphrey (still not sure), Shorts' value diminished greatly when we drafted Braxton Miller. Before we drafted Miller, I called him the Bill Gates (very rich man's) version of Cecil Shorts. We'll miss Hunt. That was a straight up tough cut. I hope he gets a chance to start some day. He could be a top half running back in the league, eventually, in my opinion.
Yeah I really like Akeem hunt very sad to see him go. Blue and grimes both made that team because of special teams coverage neither is as good as hunt. Hunt is such a weapon.
I dunno if the national narrative is that O'Brien is infallible as a leader and a likable guy, but I have heard much more credit given to him this year for coaching up the QB's he's had. This includes Fitzy, Hoyer, Mallet, and even Hackenberg at PSU. Good fans would be more evenhanded and acknowledge that he's usually put himself in a bind in the first place by acquiring such mediocre QB talent. Where it has changed perceptions, however, is in projecting the performance level of Osweiler going forward. More people are starting to believe that he might actually not be a bust relative to his contract. At the very least they're starting to see through the BS argument that Osweiler will suck because "Elway let him go, and Elway wouldn't let him go if he was good!"
Mumph played special teams a lot and targets doesn't mean anything. Mumph was on the field for a lot of those hand off only situations lol
