How many runs has he saved? I understand he made one great catch, but he has had 14 total chances in the outfield for the Rangers. He has yet to throw anyone out on the bases. Other than the one catch, what has he done defensively?

His WAR with the Rangers is negative 0.4 after only 5 games. It took him 85 games to get to negative 0.8 with the Astros.

DeShields has a 0.0 WAR this season.

He isn't an Astro at this point, what he does elsewhere does not matter.

This is hilarious. It's all confidence with gomez and just needed a team to back him and give him another chance. Unbelievable.

Let's not get ahead of ourselves. He has only played in a couple games with the Rangers and before today he was batting .136 with them.

Well...you did see his batting average for them right? Yes, he hits the occasional long ball and has power. I don't think he's necessarily playing any better than he was for us. It's just not as visible in Texas because they have so many good players that whatever they get out of Gomez is just gravy. He'll probably put up an 0 for 17 spot after that one. I do agree that he was a lousy fit in center field for us.

He's playing for a team we're in direct (and indirect) competition with for our success.... I can't see how it doesn't matter.

His success makes Houston look worse, and on top of that, he's doing for a rival.

Besides that, it doesn't matter ;)

I wouldn't exactly call what he is doing there success. Even with today's HR, still a negative WAR player with the Rangers.

In 6 games with Texas, Gomez is batting .160 with 2 home runs, 11k's and 8 RBI. If he was doing this over 6 games with Houston, there would be a ton of people asking why he was playing, complaining that he was taking AB's away from someone. He is hitting worse in Arlington than he did here and people are acting like we lost a high caliber player. He is definitely not that and may not even be close to that ever again.

But at that pace he would hit 54 home runs with 216 RBI for a season.

Me neither, I'm just saying since he plays for a team that directly affects us, it matters what he does.. whether it be positive or negative.

Did I read correctly that Gomez hit a grand slam yesterday?

Yes but it doesn't count due to his low WAR

It counts, but so do 84% of his ABs that lead to outs.

Carlos Gomez = Ty Lawson. Rockets fans thought Lawson would improve playing in Indy, he didn't, just like gomez won't.
