I really like what I've seen from Musgrove. Good velocity with a natural sink on his fastball. Breaking balls that aren't wipeout, but more than capable of putting guys away with them. Most importantly he throws strikes, and typically keeps a low pitch count (not so much today). If you maintain a good K rate, and really low walk rate, you are typically gonna have a lot of success. People like to put these imaginary ceilings on pitchers (he's a 4 maybe a 3). We just watched Keuchel win a Cy Young with raw stuff that would qualify as fringe MLB caliber. Musgrove has all the tools to be an excellent MLB starter.
Much like most pitchers who throw a lot of strikes without super-elite stuff, it will come down to pitch sequencing and pin-point location. While Keuchel didn't have elite raw "stuff"... I actually consider his ability to put the ball on the most extreme outside edge of the zone (where hitters can't do anything with it) to be a very unique and hard to duplicate skill. Its Maddux-esque. Musgrove's off-speed weapons are extremely deceptive... especially if he can get that changeup to dive out of the zone at the last second (given how many strikes he throws).
was el caballito and puma grande the last time we had 2 players who hit 100 rbi each? feels like it. Though this line up has four players that could hit 100 in springer, correa, altuve and Alex. That would be on par with the 2001 line up.
Thus far, seems Musgrove's biggest variable is venue... ERA Home - 0.54 Road - 8.27 MMP or bust _____ edit- Correa tied the RBI record (Tejada) last night. Consider the previous post a prophecy.
In 2008, Berkman had 106 and Lee had 100 (in 115 games nonetheless). On the other side of the coin, JD Martinez led the team with 55 RBI in 2012.
Loving this wild card race and it would be an awesome achievement if the Astros get a wild card spot...but the competition is fierce for those two spots. I would be pleasantly surprised and even shocked if the Astros get one of them.
Looking forward to the Cubs series. They're clearly the better team. Would be nice to see how we stack up against them. This stretch is make or break for us.
How we do on this stretch will make or break our WC chances. I really wish we could have both Valbuena and Rasmus in the lineup going into these games. Either way this will be a great experience for this team. I'm hopeful

Player A Spoiler Rasmus 90 G 31 R 12 HR 48 RBI .211/.286/.352 Player B Spoiler Robbie Grossman 78 G 43 R 9 HR 31 RBI .269/.384/.437 Spoiler Of the top 50 outfielders in the majors in homers (more than 11), Rasmus has the lowest OPS by a long shot. The guy just hasn't been of much value at all, and I would much rather see Gurriel try to make it work out there or even Hernandez at this point.
Yeah but rasmus caught absolute fire last year around this time. Terrible season and injuries be damned, if he was back to popping homers and champagne I'd take it.
Rasmus was certainly the hero in last years playoffs. No guarantee or even likelihood he is primed to do it again. Valbuena is out. No point wishing for what cant be. Getting to the playoffs would indeed be a good team experience. Not sure if falling short would be.
I sure like our chances better vs the others if we fare well vs Texas. If we stink it up at Arlington, I am afraid things will snowball.
