right play in my mind--focus is on getting the lead runner out, and throwing it so far when he's caught up gives him a shot at sprinting to whichever bag you don't throw to. Run at the runner until he makes a decision.
You are taught to run at the runner and run him back to the bag he came from before you make a throw.
you're at risk of essentially being humiliated by the other team. i don't see why any measure to prevent that humiliation isn't fair game.
If you're losing 6-0 in the 9th? That's humiliation enough. Like I said, it just depends. There's also the macho thing of "beat me with your best and I want to beat you with my best" and whatnot.
I hope that this winter they have Teo and Yuli ductaped together. Yuli reminds me of Moises Alou, Teo has that kind of talent.
