Astros are going to take all Three Rivers home with them and rename them the Correa and the Altuve and the Keuchel. One more to go!
That was an amazing outing with a killer middle of the order. Though every team we face seems to have that 1-8.
If there's a stat regarding most HRs surrendered before recording an out (McHugh), there's definitely one on something as conspicuous as 1-run save opps. Great job today, Giles. Please allow me to believe in you. Great road trip, 5-2.... might need an even better home stand. Stros need to beast and can.
Perhaps he just needs that extra pressure... He was awful in April after he threw a hissy fit for not being named the closer. Now he's nailz in his first one run save opp. Anybody who routinely procrastinates or waits till the last second can relate...
Meaning it should be more than a "save"... or simply make 1 run saves a "save", and make the other ones something else.
Just imagine if it was 4-3? I love day baseball, perfect break in the middle of the day, now it's back to the sticks for another few hours.
I hope he can start to consistently respond well to extra pressure. He was brought here so we wouldn't have to be feeling we need 2-3 run cushions at least to feel sure in the 9th like we were feeling with Gregerson and then Harris.
Doesn't need a separate stat, just deserves mention... especially when a player surrenders a run 100% of the time during those opportunities.
He's been very good since after April. One of the more dominant stretches by any Astro bullpen pitcher in recent history. The one thing that he was expected to bring, that other pitchers were lacking in, is the K ability. His strikeout numbers have actually improved this year.
I meant in general. If you take the career saves leaders and break it down to their success and conversion % in just one run 9th inning save ops, it will separate the men from the boys.
Astros need to win at least 4 of 6 on this upcoming homestand against TB and Oak. That would have their record at 70-63 go into the season defining stretch: 3 @ Tex 4 @ Cle 3 vs ChC 3 vs Tex If they can find a way to go 7-6 or better over that 13 game stretch the rest of the schedule lightens up and I like their chances for another wild card playoff berth.
