Why do our pitchers struggle so much when they're up in the count?? It's incredibly frustrating.

Devenski falls off the mound worse than any guy I've seen in a long time.

Because only one pitcher possesses elite K stuff.

    Last year, they had zero.

Also, not all other MLB lineups strike out as much as the Astros. Sometimes the batter has a role in why pitchers give up hits with 2 strikes.

Astros pitchers when ahead in the count: .203/.209/.313/.523

Agree in that most guys are better than Sipp. Though I noticed yesterday good 'ol Ollie Perez has a 5+ ERA working.

But the going rate for the legitimate options like Cervenka and Logan at the deadline was supposedly way too high. In fact, Cervenka was dealt and cost a top-10-Marlin prospect + a 2014 3rd round pick guy. That's pretty crazy for a LH specialist.

Bregman not getting hits, but his hits are liners. Great defense remains a constant. Very good player, with a Biggio-esk ceiling.

You make a good point,, sometimes.

Dev does look awkward. His defensive positioning is affected, but fortunately, his fielding hasn't been poor.

I imagine that roster considerations, Sipp's contract and the hope he'll return to form factored into that as well.

I'll be happy to not see Joyce, Polanco, or Mercer again anytime soon.

Still good swing, at a good pitch to swing at. Just a fly out, but portends good things to come.

Didn't realize that was the going rate for lefty specialist. Sucks that Sipp is the only option we have currently.

yep. If there were no options at reasonable cost, it makes just as much sense to assume Sipp will return to form. At least, it did a month ago...he's seemingly gotten worse.

Fair enough. It's just my perception that we give up a fair amount of hits when we've got 2 strikes. But it might just be a couple of guys in the rotation that do that, which skews my thinking.

Gurriel from the few ABs looks like a professional hitter. Perfect for DH.

I'm more worried about his pitch placement, especially if he ever starts again and throws deeper into games. It can be hard to keep the ball down when your arm is dragging behind your body like that.
