I come of as being hard on him I know but I think he could be at least hitting .270. Some hitters on the team don't have as much talent so expectations are not as high for them but Springer should at the very least be a .270 hitter. If he cut his swing down he could be even better then that but that big swing seems ingrained at this point.

Nice job by McHugh there. He had some bad luck on the infield single, and then had some really good luck that Rodriguez didn't crush that hanging slider.

I agree with the the cool blue hairs on the pirates broadcast, shifting on a new to the league hitter like Bell.
Shift has taketh 2 hits away from them today.
given them only 1. So it's not all bad.

He's hitting .260, he's not underperforming your expectations by that much. Definitely within standard deviation of his projections. He's 0ffer his last 10, i think he was closer to .270 earlier.

Springer is an extremely boom or bust hitter. There were serious and legitimate contact issues when he came up. He had something like the lowest contact rate in the strike zone when he came up, which was only mitigated by extremely hard contact when he did hit the ball.

He's made significant improvements in his contact rate but he's still not a pretty hitter. He is not expected to hit for average consistently. He's had the same backside collapse in his swing since he was drafted.

****This has nothing to do with the fact that I think nearly everyone else on the team (except Altuve) is underperforming what I think their true hitting talent. A guy like Correa should be hitting .300. Most of the team is better than .220 averages.

Say goodbye to the slumping Springer.

lived in Pittsburgh for a month 4 years ago. Much nicer than I expect. All the rivers and bridges make it pretty scenic.

All good points. He had a good approach on that last AB. Like Blum said he didn't over swing just put good wood on it and hit it back up the middle.

This is the view from Westend Overlook if I remember correctly. Very pretty.

I like when they break it down like this. Even during Springer's hit his shoulders were at an odd angle. He just is so strong he was able to hit it solid.

I believe it. Took a date to an Astros gala back in the 90's, we talked to Milo and it was just creepy. Next time I went, still took a date but just avoided Milo.

I went there for a weekend just on an airport-roulette lark a couple of years ago, it was a really nice city, people were great, food was great.

How about that! Our best two hitters can do the job.

It is everyone else that pretty much sharts the bed in those situations.

Wow... solid at bats from Bregman, Altuve, and Correa following Springer's single.

Right. His natural abilities make up for the flaws in his game a lot of the time.
