Ratings down 17% from London. Too much competition for consumption/attention I reckon. Milennial factor. Although I am quite sure that for myself I watched more this go than London. It didn't hold me for hours on end, but I was watching more.

So if Texas was a country, we would be 8th in medal standings with 42 medals ahead of countries like Australia.

The 26 gold medals from athletes with Texas ties, without taking in consideration medals from other states, would rank third, only behind the United States (46) and Great Britain (27).

    Pretty cool.

I hope they lose and we decide to bid in 2028. I don't want another US state to get it until we do.

The olympics are bad for a city. They leave them with massive debt.

I would love the Olympics here in Texas but I dont ever see that happening. Athletes would simply die out here in our summer heat. We really do live in a brutal summer climate and whoever did survive, their performance would be severely diminished by the heat.

But surely you would build a dome over the city, because that's what Texans do. They solve problems.

Houston sucks as a city though. There is nothing beautiful about it. Compare the natural beauty of Rio and then look at the ugliness of Houston. I don't want Houston to get it just because I don't want the entire world to laugh at how dull the city is. Not to mention the heat. Houston would be an embarrassing host city.

We innovate, not imitate. Its already been done. We need another solution.

We would simply just build a mechanism to block out the entire sun. Oh wait.....

I don't live in Houston and don't plan to but I agree. I've visited before and agree it's one of the uglier cities in terms of natural landscape. It's flat, barren and doesn't have any natural wonders/landmarks.

China had the sweeping mountains and the Great Wall, history, the forbidden city, etc, etc. Rio has the mountains, bays, and beaches. Tokyo has all the fancy high tech, gorgeous public parks, buildings, infrastructure, bridges, bays, etc. Houston.. has well. HMM.. we have really large large people :p

If the US gets the olympics I hope it's in LA/San Diego, Chicago, etc.

Good call... and getting Jennifer Lawrence to compete in archery would certainly increase viewership...

No thanks. I'd rather have it in a better city than any of these Texas cities. LA makes all the sense in world for the U.S. and probably the best shot we're going to have to host an Olympics as a nation. Paris has a legit chance as well though.

    Bingo.

Probably my 1 big gripe of the Olympics coverage is the lack of good FIELD coverage. A lot of that was taped anyway. No reason not to package it up to give it some run in primetime.

Lets hope that's what the IOC thinks of it and chooses LA. We need the Olympics back on U.S. soil! :)

Atlanta is a ugly city no doubt. but the natural scenery with Stone Mtn, Lake Lanier, and tons and tons of trees makes for prettier panoramic shots..

Houston is just flat and baron.

Paralympic rugby has no defense. And wheelchair waterpolo is sick.
