i feel like i got my money's worth ( not that i paid anything) from these olympics. i saw plenty of prime time and plenty of day time events so for once this didn't feel like two weeks that flew by. feels like the most hours i've ever watched. and we got the gold medal i most wanted in basketball.

I'm with you. The streaming becoming so available and comprehensive has really been a game-changer. It was largely in place for the London Olympic as well, but this time around I guess I was just more aware of it, and I really feel like I got a chance to sample a little bit of everything.

I love Winter just as much as Summer, so 2018 for me!

But I agree with others that I got my fill. Normally the games happen in the middle of Summer so I can watch non-stop all day on my Summer break. This year couldn't do that, but once I moved on from solely watching the very limited Prime Time stuff and found in-demand, wow.

I do feel NBC needs to tweak and update their content package just a bit. The streaming and on-demand options are definitely a good thing. But it would be nice if they can do something to make Prime Time a bit more appealing then showing the same sports all the time. I want to watch track and swimming and gymnastics and beach as much as everyone else and I have nothing against the added drama they build into it. But it'd be nice if they can reserve some time to highlight other events (and not just in a 2-3 min package). Maybe bring in fresh commentary that can provide more technical perspectives to the sports so people know better what they're watching. Cut in and out to other sports instead of so many pointless interviews or showing long wait times for marque events (for the track relays they just showed the teams waiting under the stadium). I personally don't need to see so many qualifying heats or waits before marque events, unless it's something compelling, like the King finger wag or the Phelps stare down. Though I do like the added cameras in those areas that can capture raw moments. As one writer mentioned, as the games on NBC push to 2032 (which is the end of their current contract), viewers are going to want to see the games on their own terms, so NBC should find ways to deliver that while still making a return on their investment.

man, i'm going to miss these olympics.

being 24, i have a better appreciation of the value of having games like these. it's truly solidarity at its finest.

as another poster said, online access has given us the ability to sample a bit of everything. to see some of these countries that send a few athletes out, it's cool to see their pride on display. these games are a language everyone understands.

i'm in a period in my life where things aren't going so well, so the past two weeks have been a bit of a refuge. truly going to miss it.

    back to reality...

Because we're dealing with the IOC here, an entire musical performance at the closing ceremonies was used solely as a commercial for the new Olympic Channel.

Also, on a side note, I have so many questions about the channel. Is all of the programming going to be in English? Or French, the official language of the Olympics? Is there actually going to be a programming schedule or is this really more of something like a glorified IOC-branded YouTube channel with a whole bunch of canned pre-recorded events and promotional materials?

They claim that they are going to show events in the sports played during the Olympics. Do they mean only international competition or will we also see domestic competition in those sports?

It just seems like such a massive undertaking, to the point that it seems destined to fail, or at least destined to cost the IOC a ton of money until they get tired of propping it up.

    Japan's ceremony totally outclasses Brazil's.

Japan having a better pre-opening/accepting ceremony than Rio had a closing ceremony. LOL.

Even though NBC sucked for these Olympics, they did a great job with the closing montage.

I'm sorry to hear that, man. Here's to things working out for you and getting back on track. Think about this......the next time the Olympics roll around, you'll be in a significantly better place in your life, and you can look back on this time as just a passing phase.

NBC always tries to make the olympics gorgeous and epic but even they couldnt sanitize the crappy atmosphere this time.

Low turn out, bad and dirty venues, and overall just a poor atmosphere. One of the worst and most boring opening and closing ceremonies. The marathon allowed for some nice views of Rio but even then again it just didnt seem like the Brazillians cared to turn out. It just translated to a very lack luster Olympics. London was good and Bejing was light years ahead of Rio.

Rio got a bad rap, I didn't think it was that bad. I won't miss NBC's coverage though. Now I can go back to only watching Sunday night which they do well.

cause you got the sanitized NBC version. From polluted waters, to the swimming pool turning green (seriously biggest sporting event every 4 years and you can't keep a pool clean?) to the very worse in my opinion was all hte empty seats at all the events. Must have sucked to be a competitor and look in the stands and see swaths and swaths of empty seats.

Just started a savings account Saturday specifically for the 2020 Tokyo games with my GF. The plan is to have $6K by 2020.

I enjoy watching the Olympics, primarily to see events I wouldn't normally see (ie. archery, kayaking, bike races, table tennis, beach volleyball, indoor volleyball, waterpolo, swimming, gymnastics, and track and field).

What I was disappointed in was basketball. While there were a few men's games that were relatively close, I just didn't like the US team. And while I liked the US women's team, the games were so one-sided I barely watched. I guess I could have watched games not involving the US...

I thought the Olympics were excellent. I can already tell I will have withdrawals.

I thought NBC did a solid job with their presentation. I only used their on demand Online offerings a few times and they were good. Mostly watched their linear content on broadcast TV.
