I'm curious what taunting the Mongolian was doing. I'm not a wrestler but I know in many sports there are rules against taunting and poor sportsmanship. So I'm really curious how bad was it.

That said the coaches are out of line. As a coach myself who was once kicked off the mat for getting too out of hand complaining calls (I deserved it) I agree those guys should be banned. Even if the call was wrong and unfair they just embarrassed themselves their player, their country and their sport.

At least they didn't do this.

That was funny -- desperation protest. I want to see what he did to lose the point.

I'd really like to know the thought process of those coaches in the lead-up to their decision to take their clothes off.

To me, that has to be something they've thought about doing before. I just can't imagine someone deciding in the heat of the moment that taking their clothes off in front of the officials was the proper response to not liking their ruling against their wrestler. Plus, the way the second guy hammed it up for the crowd tells me that they kind of relished the opportunity.

That was barely anything to disqualify him for. I understand they may want to protect the integrity of the game, but that's a terrible call

If I was the coach I would've laid a massive dump on the mat

The Mongolian coaches are idiots and the Uzbeky wrestler didn't actually win!
The Uzbecky kid was lucky! Right place at the right time! Reminds me of when Steven Bradbury won the gold (02') in speed-skating when EVERYONE else fell down!
Apollo Anton Ohno was actually in the lead (5 skaters) and Bradbury was dead last! After the fall the SLOWEST one of the 5 takes home the gold.

Looks like he was celebrating. Those refs should take a turn in the ring with the guy.

Seemed like the guy couldn't contain his excitement about his inevitable win in the final moments.

Apparently emotions have no place in sports?

That's only part of his story!

Only the top two finishers in each heat would move on, and he was paired with Ohno and a Canadian that was also the defending world champion. He finished 3rd, but was able to advance because the Canadian got DQ for obstruction.

In the semifinals, he was in last place until 3 of his competitors crashed and he finished 1st.

And of course, you know what happened in the final, haha

The cherry on top is that he was well aware of his limitations and his coach explicitly advised him to lay back and wait for his overaggressive competitors to crash.

Three fortuitous events + opportunistic coaching

And that's how Australia won it's first Winter Olympic gold medal

I kind of remember this. That said, I can't remember the end result of this race. was there no controversy? hard to imagine you can be racing and have the dude behind/next to you just take you out on a turn and there's no recourse for that.

This situation is also a joke. What a terrible judge call.
