all the criticism of Brazil leading up to and during the games, and Brazil's hero delivers gets the game winning PK for the gold medal. seriously cannot script it any better
Well....that was dramatic! Evenly matched 'till the very end. I can't even imagine the pressure on the Brazilian players, possibly losing on home soil twice in a row to the germans.
I despise the penalty kick system in soccer. It is so weak. However, that was a truly awesome ending. I thought Brazil was done when Germany tied the game. Good for them, especially beating the country that humiliated them 2 years ago.
That was pretty fun to watch. Sucks that game had to end on penalty kicks but still cool to see. First gold for Brazil in Soccer at the Olympics.
So ****ed up, feel sorry for our guys. All odds against them (no preparation, not even a single test match, basically a complete Starting XI voting not to play, losing key players during the tournament, out of rhythm and not in best shape because their season isn't under way, ...) and yet one penalty away from winning gold. They really would've deserved it. But on the brighter side, Klostermann, Süle and Brandt will be a great additions to our senior squad sooner or later.
USA runner Chelimo wins silver, then finds out right along with the viewers at home on NBC that he was DQ'ed during is interview with Lewis Johnson, and then has the medal reinstated later. What a swing of emotion that must have been.
There were a lot of firsts for Team USA in these Olympic but I gotta wonder how many more Gold medals we'd have if we hadn't gotten upset in a lot of the events that we were favored in. All in all still a great Olympics, we dominated as usual. Best country in the world.

i guess you gotta expect some letdowns with the surprises. while volleyball was a letdown, watching the swimming it felt like we got quite a few more medals, or sometimes just better medals, than we expected. it almost seemed like no one underperformed pre-Olympic expectations and a whole bunch of swimmers overperformed. and i can't ever remember the long distance runners/triathletes getting so many medals.
Yup, Hrubesch and his team managed to augment the strength of the team, they just got better and better and had a good unit, camaraderie and chemistry.
Happy for the guy. They did a pretty good feature on him and his dad, who seemed to place huge pressure on him in the past but seemed like a nice dad otherwise.
Exactly. This was Hrubesch's last match before he retires. Would've deserved it as well. Although he's always giving the impression of being not too intelligent, he always managed to form our youth teams to a real unit. Did a little research, this team would've been eligible. All of them from Champions League or Euro League clubs but not established in our national team: Karius Kimmich Rüdiger Tah Can Weigl Dahoud Sané Draxler Bitencourt Volland Too bad German football doesn't appreciate the Olympics too well. Hope we'll send a more competetive team in 2020 and win Gold for the first time.
Brazil's front line sucks without Neymar. You would think after the humiliation at the Copa, they wouldn't be so selfish with the ball. Luan was embarrassing himself.
Mongolian wrestler lost his medal due to taunting. As a result, his coaches started to strip down to their underwear as protest. lol

¡Increíble! No kidding. Two weeks and change, in fact. Every four years, I'm so very thankful that the Olympics come along and help us get through one of the most barren times of year for sports (and just as crucially, keeps me from resorting to watching preseason football). I love baseball, but it's been nice to have something else to watch.
Definitely going to miss it. As the previous poster said I'm thankful for the Olympics especially because they are every 4 years. Looking forward to 2020!
