I really like Bill Worrell, so I regret this decision.

But I don't like that cyberx is putting that info out there.

If Bill should have been given the opportunity to make it look like it's on his own terms, why take that away from him? Who benefits from that?

That's actually a good point, one I hadn't thought of, at any rate.

What's the point in having 'inside info' if it is never given?
Nobody is going to report to the public that 'cyberx from the Clutchfans bbs says Worrell was pushed' - so, apart from the people on this bbs (who, although vast in number for a bbs, make up a very, very small percentage of people) the public perception will be that he retired on his own terms.

I fail to see the downside in cyberx sharing what he has heard

I've never been a huge fan of the announcing team but if I was going to list them in order of 'gotta go' well...let's just say Bill would be last.

Worrell might not want to leave now, but he might want to hang onto the gig until he's 90 (who can blame him), at some point management has to make decisions like this.

Our announce team is generally considered among the very worst and Bill is a big part of that reason. It seems like mostly older fans are just being nostalgic about not wanting to let him go, but objectively he's pretty bad and his aging seems to have affected what he sees on the court (often getting things mixed up). I'm looking forward to his replacement but Clyde has got to go too.

I don't think Bill or Calvin would ever leave the Rockets by choice, they love the Rockets so much and they've been doing it forever.

I used the Lakers and Chick Hearn as an example on how to treat your team lifers, Chick was definitely getting too old and messing up on TV, but they wouldn't do this to him.

Hell the Lakers gave him a Statue.

My Mom and Bill were friends from their UH days. I've found him to be a cool guy and have the utmost respect for him. I mean..C'mon, he's a Houston institution. Yes, he likes to have fun and looks at everything through his Houston lenses. But, so do I.

Like I said, he's Mr. Houston.....maybe there's a little slippage, but not even close to enough to warrant this...Esp. when weighed against what he means to our city. Dude has represented strong ...and still does...part of our identity.

    Enough plaudits for Dad.

Let's talk about our insane owner.

This is further evidence how out of touch/heavy handed Leslie is.

Even P.T. Barnum would frown on this move, and as a forever and ever Rocket fan...It hurts me to the core to see what a circus this whole thing has become under Les's tenure.

Again...he has been and IS an abomination of an owner.

It's like back when Donald Sterling went no filter towards Baron Davis after reading an unflattering article on him by Bill Simmons

    Thanks brother.

Bill Worrell deserves better, he's welcomed many generations of Rockets fans.

Love Worrell and the Murphy duo but I guess it's time to move on. Craig Ackerman will be great.

    Yep.

Bill was a little too real for their taste.

I'm glad les was a part of the two rings. I'll never forget those times. I was a kid but it etched the Team into my soul. My favorite team of all time. On any level in any sport including the ones I played on.

That said, I am growing to hate Leslie Alexander.

I guess I am in the minority in that I like Bill Worrell. He wasn't afraid to call out the players. Looks like a combination of cost saving and getting a person on TV you have more control over.
