They are definitely participating. Off the top of my head, I've seen Mexican gymnasts, divers, and runners all in qualifying, but the only one I can remember in a final is a male springboard diver.
No, the fact that there's video showing his claims to be not true and his teammates are saying he's a liar shows that he's a liar. The story caused a huge amount of negative publicity for an entire country by playing into people's fears and stereotypes of the games. It's not surprising that they would be pissed and pursue this.
I wonder if any of this had even come out if Lochte had never even brought it up. It seems from the articles I keep reading that everything was resolved at the gas station and that no charges would be filed.
that is the point of paying of corrupt police. you get to settle things at the scene. as ryan lochte was stone cold sober and fluent in portuguese he really messed up that deal.
If Lochte (and the other 3) had just said, "Look, we got hammered and did some stupid **** that we regret. We paid for the damages we caused, and apologize to anyone we might have hurt", none of this would have happened. It wouldn't be this huge national story, people wouldn't be talking about it for days, and their reputations probably wouldn't have even been affected. This is all because Lochte is an arrogant, entitled douche who thinks that he can get away with being an entitled douche his whole life because he's a good swimmer.
what in the video shows he is a liar? are you guys talking about the video in this thread? it seems to be exactly what he told matt lauer
This is pretty much what I meant when I said it was worse that they lied than the actual acts committed. Not excusing the stupid acts by any means, but this definitely wouldn't have been like a national spotlight story like it has been for the last 3-4 days. http://www.cnn.com/2016/08/18/sport/us-swimmers-olympics-robbery-questions/index.html It's the video and the account of the Gas Station attendant. They took a leak in public outside too. That was never mentioned by Lochte at all.
Same video as the thread. It doesn't show he lied about anything. I find it hard to believe no weapons were used (the Brazilians claim) because all of them had their hands up.
Oh I think for sure that the Brazilian story doesn't add up either that there wasn't a firearm drawn. There probably was just from the looks of the video. But he lied about how they were stopped. I see your point though. There's still a lot of stuff that doesn't add up. It really depends on how you look at it and how the security guard came up to them. At the end of the day though, I still think if Lochte said nothing, they would've been fine right now. If they were urinating in public, that looks pretty bad. Also looks bad if they actually broke the door which seems to be the case. Basically what I'm trying to say is that he didn't give the full story and that's what is really confusing people right now as to what really happened. You can't give half a story and claim robbery. That just paints a completely different story than what might have really happened. EDIT: Found this video of a reporter trying to explain what went down at the gas station. http://www.nbcolympics.com/video/inside-gas-station-where-ryan-lochte-says-he-was-robbed
Oh, theyre participating, theyre just not winning anything. Ive made so much fun of my best friend (Mexican national) about it that its not even funny anymore. They do have a chance to medal I believe in a boxing class and taekwando. One of the lines I hit him with was, "I just downloaded an app called Olympicmon Go and told him he should also but hed probably not have any fun or luck collecting any medals in Mexico."
Probably not. I don't think Lochte even brought it up initially. Wasn't it his mom? I wonder if he just tried to make up a story for his mom, and then she took it to the news and all hell broke loose from there.
He was by most accounts drunk and doesn't speak the language. Combine that with not being the brightest guy I will go out on a limb and say he doesn't know the entire story. The video doesn't show he was lying as Major claimed. If the story that he tried to enter the bathroom and was unable so he went outside, I'm sure that is the first time someone has done that in Rio based on the sewage content of the water. It is probably as rare as negotiating how much cash you have to give the guy with the gun pointed <s> at your forehead</s> in your general direction.
The video doesn't paint the entire story, but I can agree in the sense that it doesn't show he was lying. Seems like every few minutes there's something new being told. There's inconsistencies all over the place for this though combine that with some misinformation about what they potentially destroyed and vandalized. I'm probably going to wait until the story becomes clearer before saying who lied and who did what.
I thought Lochte broke it originally on social media? Yea...there is still misinformation. It's almost like there are two events that happened...one with the gas station security guy and manager...and another with fake cops. I still don't know what to believe. You got Brazil giving their side but I really haven't seen any actual interviews or quotes from any of the swimmers where they are confessing that they got caught in a lie trying to cover up drunken vandalism.

BREAKING: Brazilian authorities confirm to ABC that Ryan Lochte & James Feigen have been indicted for false reporting of a crime #LochteGate
— Michael Del Moro (@MikeDelMoro) August 18, 2016

Is Feigen the one on the run? He must be in the jungle somewhere. He's gonna die! "Jungle...welcome to the jungle...watch it bring you to your knees, knees"
Sorry - the video footage I was referring to is the footage from the Olympic Village. My understanding is that there is footage at the village of them returning and going through security with all their stuff and all perfectly happy. Not shaken up and distraught from being robbed at gunpoint just a bit earlier. Not missing their stuff as they claimed. That said, this video does show he was lying as well. He painted a story of random fake police coming up to him and stealing his stuff. He said these fake police pulled over their taxi - that is demonstrably false from the video. He said the gun was pressed against his forehead. Then that it was aimed at him. Then that it was pointed in their general direction. All of this is simple BS. It's really, really weird that you are so strongly defending destruction of property and lying to police about it as "oh, it's Brazil, so they shouldn't care".
So you haven't seen it but just claim he is a liar. He said they didn't take his phone or credentials so that other video (that you were never referring to but using as a backtrack) doesn't mean he is a liar either. that isn't what he told matt lauer or what he claimed he told the police. So the video is irrelevant. He is the one who changed that, not the video. So wrong again. none of this has anything to do with the video. so your claim the video showing him to be a liar is still wrong. By most accounts his money was taken from him at gunpoint. Seems like a robbery. I don't find it weird you call him a liar based on a video you never watched tho because that is what I typically expect from your posts. Like claiming I am defending destruction of property. I mean, that kinda makes you an obvious liar to anyone reading the thread, all because you typed something in a post that was wrong you have to go after me. I mean instead of that just watch the videos before you say what is in them.
