Edgartown, Massachusetts (CNN)Amid historic devastation in Louisiana, the state's largest daily newspaper is calling on President Barack Obama, who is being kept abreast of the situation by White House officials, to cut his Martha's Vineyard getaway short to view flood-ravaged areas of the state.

"A disaster this big begs for the personal presence of the President at ground zero," read the editorial published in The Advocate on Thursday. "In coming here, the President can decisively demonstrate that Louisiana's recovery is a priority for his administration -- and the United States of America."
"The President's vacation is scheduled to wrap up on Sunday. But he should pack his bags now, and pay a call on communities who need to know that in a national catastrophe, they are not alone," read the column. "The President's presence is already late to this crisis, but it's better later than never."
Calling Obama's vacation destination "a playground for the posh and well-connected," the paper said that the waters had receded enough to allow for a presidential visit.

This is our leadership. Prioritizing Martha's Vineyard vs. being with the devastated in Louisiana.

and just LOL at the hypocrisy of the liberals - W caught unceasing hell for merely observing the Katrina devastation from a plane above, and yet Obama can attend fundraising events with the elite in Martha's Vineyard while Louisiana suffers? You're total hypocrites, liberals.

They are all about equally effective, which is to say not at all, at solving the problem. And phony outrage from both sides in all cases is silly. Flying over fixes nothing, walking on foot fixes nothing, fundraising fixes nothing. The national guard and FEMA systems and actions are the best that can be done right now. chances are lack of action, funding, or bad decision making on infrastructure over decades is the root cause of the issue.

This is ridiculous, but it's just as ridiculous as Bush getting attacked for not showing up to the scenes of certain tragedies which was interpreted by the left as him not caring.

This back and forth bickering between sides has to stop because it is ruining our country. It's ridiculous to demand that any president has to be at ground zero to be effective. In fact their security detail and measures would interfere with real efforts to bring in supplies and people. You selfish bastards need to stop if you care about america.

    ^^

There's significant "empathy" and emotional healing value of a leader showing up. That's common sense, guys.

Come on, you're not even going to throw in a "Nice job brownie" quote? And then feign ignorance on it's meaning? You're slipping.

This is great news for McCain & Romney though.
