I'm not too concerned. More concerned about tackling than anything. We were missing a lot of starters, and Kelly'soffense is going to look better at this time of year when guys are rounding into shape. Tackling, though, hopefully improves as we get further into the season and get some starters back. Offensive line concerned me as well, but we were missing three starters. Anderson, Miller, Miller, Savage,a nd Covington all looked good. It's hard to judge Brock when were running a vanilla offense with second stringers on the line. Anyone who wants to judge him already just doesn't know football.
Lance was saying on the radio that the Texans do not have any linebackers that can cover and it was exposed in this game
The consecutive season streak of this continues. I suspect the team will address ILBs speed on defense next draft. For now we'll have to rely on pressuring the QB, good run defense, and hopefully an improved offense.
https://www.profootballfocus.com/pro-hou-sf-grades/ Houston Texans Quarterbacks: Brock Osweiler got his first game action with his new team on Sunday, but with just 15 snaps played, we weren’t given too much of a look yet. He completed four of seven passes, but all four came on throws less than 10 yards in the air, and he didn’t attempt a pass under pressure, as he was sacked on the lone pressured dropback. Third-year QB Tom Savage received the majority of playing time for the Texans, and looked like he had improved since last preseason. He performed really well under pressure, grading well above-average, and had a 75 percent adjusted completion percentage. Offense: Rookie WR Braxton Miller (Ohio State) was targeted six times, gaining 34 yards on four catches. He was outplayed by WR Josh Lenz, though, who had three catches for 52 yards, all of which went for first downs. Offensive linemen Jeff Adams and Arturo Uzdavinis accounted for six of the eight total pressures allowed by the Texans’ offensive line, but otherwise the rest of the line played well in pass protection. Guard Oday Aboushi led the team with the highest run-blocking grade of the 13 linemen who saw the field. It was a pretty underwhelming performance for most of the running backs. Free-agent signee Lamar Miller averaged 7.5 yards on his four carries, but otherwise the rest of the group (Kenny Hilliard, Akeem Hunt, Tyler Ervin, and Jonathan Grimes) averaged 2.5 yards on 24 runs with three missed tackles and a fumble. Defense: Missed tackles were a big problem for Houston’s defense. They combined for 15 total missed tackles, with four players being multiple offenders. Rookie UDFA LB Shakeel Rashad (North Carolina) was the top performer on defense, picking up a run-stop and grading well in coverage. He was targeted four times on 17 snaps in coverage, allowing one 4-yard catch and getting a pass defense. Second-year LB Benardrick McKinney fared just the opposite, as coverage is still his weakness, allowing the long touchdown pass to Vance McDonald. CB Kevin Johnson also had a solid day in coverage; on 33 coverage snaps, he was targeted four times, and allowed
Thought Strong had a solid day as well. Looks like a completely different player from last season. Also thought Hilliard ran pretty well for the most part. Think him and Miller could be a nice little duo. Blue really could be the odd man out when it's all said and done.
Dhop, Strong, Fuller, Miller, and 2 of Shorts, Williams, and Lenz (I see Williams killing it in the return game. Mumph needs to be gone, and only keep 4 RBs (Miller, Ervin, Hunt, Hilliard) I think Blue and Grimes should be gone as well.
I remember the beginning of last season when we were annihilated by dink and dunk passing attacks. Seems like it could happen again this year.
I like Grimes as well, but tbh, what he does is already accounted for in Miller, Ervin and Hunt. Hilliard with the pounding back who is starting to look shifty as well. That is a fast core that Grimes would be redundant on. IMO.
The tackling was pretty atrocious. I expect some rustiness but that was bad. I don't expect that to be a huge issue going forward however. Brock was whatever, and that's expected in the first game. It's too early to judge so the jury is still out, and it will be for a while. Savage looked pretty solid and boy, he throws a pretty ball. There is no need for a QB controversy at this point, but it is nice to have him as a backup. Impressed with Braxton and it's great to see Strong in such good shape. Excited about Lamar's potential in this offense. Disappointing in the punt/kick returns. Wendall has to make every opportunity count if he's making the team.

Yeah the lack of tackling was pretty bad.....also, did Whitney Mercilus play last night? If so, that's not good because Mr "double digit sack count" was completely invisible out there if he actually played. We're going to need him to be as good as some people thought he was last year if Watt misses time.
He played a few snaps. He actually had a really good run stuff where he came across the line and got the guy as he he hit a hole. Looked like when I saw him he was essentially only playing the run.
