Mt. Rushmore of sports: Ali, Jordan, Bolt, Phelps, Gretzky? There's definitely some other more dominant athletes like Karelin and Bradman, but what do you guys think?
There is something extra special about being the fastest man to have ever lived. We've been running/ sprinting for millions of years and have had races for thousands of years -- Bolt is the best that has ever lived. *In BC 748,766 Og Uh Uhhg ran a 9.41 100 but petroglyphs indicate his time was wind aided.
He was talking about current. Those numbers will obviously go down as the week goes on. Still a lot of gold, silver and bronze to be had for Team USA.
Don't other countries have the opportunity to win medals in swimming? Considering they do, why does the USA dominance in swimming make their medal haul less impressive?
OK that is what I was thinking. That is like saying the U.S. wins a large amount of its medals in track and field if it were to be at the beginning instead of the end.
Is the idea that Bolt would be winning the 400 if he ran/focused on that and could be a fantastic long distance runner as well?? Bolts freaking amazing... I just don't know why the short distances matter more than the long of one is saying best runner. I mean the marathon is running. So is that the idea then? His pure dominance and frankly mind blowing speed at short distances would translate well to somewhat longer distances. But probably not winning he super long distance ones which in many ways is just a different sport? Also Bolts world record 100 is something like 9.58. If my math is correct that's the equivalent of a 3.50 40 yard dash... Is that right?
No, Bolt is fast he is not quick -- his 40 times while fast aren't even close to elite speedsters in the NFL. Bolt's speed comes over the last 50 meters his top end is the fastest in history [just under 28 mph]. The race tonight was a perfect example -- he was right in the middle of the pack then just accelerated away over the final 50 meters.
Bolt used to run the 400 and was very good -- if he would have made it his focus i'm sure he would have been an all time great.
