I think it is because of the streaming and multiple channels playing matches concurrently. NBC has no obligation to show other niche sports when it's online and on dedicated channels.

I miss the old days when I could just watch one or two channel and they would play a bunch of sports. I didn't have figure out when everything was go on.

I got my Laptop, tablet, phone, desktop and TV going at the same time just to catch everything. It's damn exhausting, but Ive watched a lot of sports I wouldn't otherwise.

Thank goodness Phelps will be swimming for the last time so we won't have to see everything Phelps and his mother for the rest of the Olympics.

Cody Miller better be giving thanks for Phelps and Adrian. Peaty eviscerated the lead Miller was given.

I have a feeling that we'll see Phelps four years from now in Tokyo, not running a full schedule, mind you, but perhaps in the butterfly or as part of a relay.

I just think he's far too competitive to leave when he knows he can still compete with the best.

How can he not just compete in at least one event -- is it possible to actually get board of being in the Olympics. Seriously it's only 4 years away and he is one of only two [Mark Spitz] swimming world wide superstars in the history of the sport. It's not like he is risking his health unless he's developed a chlorine allergy. Plus his kid would get to see his dad compete in the world's biggest competition -- Oh and the millions of dollars...

That's a ton of time and training for 1 event. Is there that much of a difference between 23 gold medals and 24 gold medals to commit that much more time? He's already set financially from sponsorships for a while so I doubt that's much motivation.

Only does two things, freestyle and butterfly, and gets 8 chances at gold. I'm glad he's retiring, I'm Phelps'd out.

U.S. dominating in the gold and total medal count.

The rest of the world can kiss our ass.

Swimming accounts for 67% of USA Gold and 55% of total medals. When you consider the number of medal opportunities in swimming (way to high) it's much less impressive. I'm saying this as a proud American but just got to be honest with ourselves. Good news, if you taking away swimming for everyone we'd still be top 3 in a very tight race with China and GB.

Who cares? We dominate the olympics. It doesn't matter what % accounts for what. We lead in golds and total medal counts and it'll probably stay that way.

    We own the olympics.

On another note, that 4x100 Medley by the women accounted for the 1000th gold medal of all-time for Team USA.

Swimming and track and field should have tons more events than any other sports. They're as basic as it gets in terms of athleticism.

I mean skeet shooting, badminton, and synchronized swimming are events at the Olympics. Frisbee golf must be next.

He's a proud American, hence his need to preface it in the discussion.

Has the diving water always been murky. I thought it looked cool myself. But I was expecting clear water.
