NBC interviewing the athletes right after they finish a race and are out of breath is so unnecessary...
NBCs prime time coverage model has gotten a bit stale. The same events, night in and night out. I love swimming, gymnastics, volleyball and track, and granted they are strong American events. But would it kill them to show other sports instead of qualifying events? I know I can stream, but I like sitting down in prime time to watch on the tv. So options would be nice; more variety please.
it's possible the swimmers might be headed off to the pool for their cool down (warm down?) and it might be better for them to just do the interview then? or they might be off to something that makes it easier to just get the interview out of the way, but i don't know. while i wouldn't mind some other events, i'm guessing phelps and ledecky prelims still would dominate something like the archery or judo competitions in ratings. i don't really remember just going to the pool for almost all of prime time but i guess with it being live it's the easy call and then they just work the other america-centric events in around that. i do enjoy during the day just flipping around all of the nbc channels and watching whatever events happen to be on. it's hilarious how fast you form a rooting interest in an event you know nothing about involving 2 athletes you've never heard of.

So when does Simone Biles going to pitch again for the Astros? She can be in relief for Keuchel whenever he's struggling.
Whoever thought the only teams left representing CONCACAF in this Olympics soccer tournaments are the Canada women and the Honduras men.
Germany crushes Portugal 4-0 to advance to the semis. Denmark or Nigeria next. Gnarby is real talented, but I've never seen a football player that much in Kobe-mode. Quickly needs to change that to really get his career back on track.
I'm kind of with you on this, and I've actually been a defender of NBC's prime-time model, generally speaking. They're making lemonade out of lemons, with so many events, most notably gymnastics, taking place during the daytime hours. With that being said, it has gotten really repetitive during these games for some reason, and I don't have enough of a memory of the programming in previous Olympics to know if this time around really has been more repetitive in prime time or if it just seems that way.
How have the divers not banded together and refused to dive into that swamp that they are calling the diving pool? I don't care if it's supposedly harmless; that water looks really gross.
I agree about the primetime coverage. First time streaming (CBC) this year and it has been absolutely fantastic. Weightlifting and (non-US) basketball should definitely get more coverage.
