He felt more American, wanted to play with the USA players than against them, etc. Plus better chance to win Gold with team USA. Kinda like Jahlil Okafor and Victor Oladipo choosing to wait for their chance with the USA team rather than play for Nigeria. Maybe not the best example since Australia have a great chance to medal but you get my drift.

Nah he was probably just scared of having to compete for playing time with Patty Mills and Delly. :grin:

 

He was like two when he left Australia. The only reason he has Australian ties is his father happened to be playing there when he was born. He also has dual citizenship.

 

i said i was concerned about this team's offense. not only not many shooters, but very few high iq players. the play has been very sloppy and careless with forced passes players shouldn't be trying to make. jimmy butler comes in the first quarter with the team struggling and immediately fires up a contested long 2 early in the shotclock. then george tries to force a dribble into traffic. stuff like that all over the court.

 

it would be hard to imagine the refs helping serbia any more than they just did in the first half. already 3 technical/unsportsmanlike calls against the US, deandre jordan can't buy a call (and got the upsportsmanlike on a flop), and this radulica guy? elbows jordan on a post up for a no call. shoves jordan on an alley oop for a no call. gets blocked into the backboard cleanly by green but gets two free throws (one of the technical calls), then commits a clear as day travel on a catch in the paint before knocking someone out of the way to clear space...and gets two free throws.

 

doug collins making excuses for paul george and klay thompson, they are missing shots because they are not as good as harden, eveerybody plays defense in fiba. but only a select few have elite offense.. klay has no handles

 

Thib's defense is awful. Imagine if Harden was on this team. It would have been all his fault.

All of these games are huge and comments spread over 3 threads.

 

the next time someone complains they call too many ticky-tack fouls in the nba, they need to be forced to watch this game about 10 straight times. team USA has like 20+ free throws in this half. if team USA actually had to make a shot i don't know where the offense would be.

 

who is going to foul the 3 point shooter? paul george?

 

Even if they lose, I have to give Serbia credit, they are playing their "asses off."

 

paul george isn't afraid to go for a steal and leave a 3 point shooter open. granted, i know you have to go for steals some times, but probably not then.

 

those were on purpose to stall the offense and it worked.

thibs pick and roll defensive scheme was awful. reminds me of pre-2008. the D at the 2014 world championships was so good. this has been awful.


it feels like coach K never addresses anything as a game goes on. the same sloppiness on offense and lack of discipline on D stay throughout the whole game. call a timeout once in a while (i know the timeout rules are different but i'm pretty sure they're still allowed).


no one should ever have to force a pass into traffic with this much talent. it's ridiculous it keeps going. my friends and i play more fluid offense in pick-up games. it's just amazing how little feel they often have for the game.


the lack of reliable shooters once again shows itself. when you're just hoping guys like jimmy butler and paul george will make a 3, that's not good. it doesn't help that klay is never going to make another shot again or that durant just no-showed this game when they are 2 of your 3 shooters, but there is still very little shooting.

now, serbia had 2 big guys - raduljica and nokic - shoot like 13-17 from the field while teodosic was on fire, but that's still no excuse for playing a close game against a team that was clearly overmatched when you were up 23-5. the number of easy layups given up was just crazy.


and while the refs evened things up a bit, the number of overall foul calls in this tournament is making these games hard to watch. THEY CALL EVERYTHING ON OFFENSE. any bump or reach in that leads to any sort of flail or headsnap immediately gets a whistle. LET SOME THINGS GO!!! i think there were close to 70 free throws in a 40 minute game.
