Ledecky is getting faster at the sprint events, but I think penny has genetics going for her. She is taller, has longer arms, bigger hands etc.

so happy for aly. i would say i wanted her to win but i would've felt bad for simone if she was this dominant and didn't get the gold. plus, aly didn't seem like she had any illusions of winning the gold so i think it worked out perfectly. gabby could definitely have used some energy on the cheering, if just for appearances.
She should have been in the All-Around....except they added a rule only 2 from each country can be in the all-around. She finished 3rd in qualifying out of ALL of the competitors.
What happened to Missy Franklin? She was a beast at 17, now she's garbage... Not saying this Oleksiak girl won't be great in the future, but there is no guarantee.
it's not an isolated incident though, i've generally got this salty vibe from her. but yeah, even though they've had that rule for a while, it does suck. it could be that she went to college instead of going pro after last olympics... and probably going to the wrong college which didn't allow her to work on her weaknesses or improve her strengths. she's still young though so it's not like her career is over
I don't understand why all these swimmer don't go pro. They have a short window to maximize their earnings even shorter than pro athletes. You can always go back to college later, but you aren't going to be setting world records at 30.
so girls named simone from houston suburbs make pretty good olympians (edit: dammit Bandwagoner). i can't totally fault gabby douglas for not being happy. i don't know how any of these olympians who barely miss out on things are ever happy, especially when they are teammates with the people who took it away from them. in high school i did compete against my best friend all the time, but if he beat me i didn't have to show up the next day and cheer him on like i was just so happy for him. and granted, gabby suprisingly making the all-around took it away from jordan wieber in london and i would guess wieber put on a good face so now it's the same situation happening to her. and while it's easy to feel like she's comforted by already having a gold, i'm guessing a second gold (well, realistically a silver) would be even more comforting. so i can't be too mad at her being too mad.
i agree, for the phelps/ledecky elite level swimmers, they should definitely go pro. they would wash everyone at the collegiate level so better to maximize your earnings and get your sponsorships. you never know what could happen in the future, especially with a sport like swimming that is really only popular once every four years. you gotta get the non-olympic ad money. i think for some of these swimmers, like franklin, the college experience is what draws them in. that team-bonding aspect you get with swimming with your teammates must be worth it. the thing about ledecky is that she can actually get better at stanford seeing how she will train with neal and manuel. i don't think missy had that same competition when she went to college, hence her fall from dominance.
They made a big deal of it. Brought it up in the interview. Canada broadcast talked about it too. Etc. Blowong up on social media. Etc.
You can always go back to college but you can't always get the type of collegiate experience you would as a young adult. Now if they can make basketball type $$ or something then I can see going pro.

The Pro's should all pay him to stay in the Olympics. As everyone in the sport is profiting from his exposure. His net worth is 55 million. He's going just fine. 25 million in sponsorships 1.5 Million in assets 42 k salary 480k from medal bonus 1 Million for Speedo 5 Million Real Estate Swimming is prime time, live. All because of Phelps. It seems to make him happy. Just keep swimming until u get beat.
