It's not like you can't defend your position to an officer, once they write the ticket you get you're day in court. I've yet to see someone convince an officer that they made a mistake when it comes to a traffic violation. Dash cams might help.

Okay, but hypothetically, a crooked cop has the power to waste a citizens time with court and lawyer fees along with the time wasted out of work. If you are a poor family, it could be devastating.

I just wish there was some sort of mechanism where you can argue your case with an officer so you are not a slave of an officer's discretion to waste the next 4 months of your life.

I understand that with the second amendment, officers in this country have to assume that every swinging dick is armed but it does seem Gestapo like that us citizens need to become Buddhist monks with ultimate discipline around a LEO so we don't get shot.

If you sit in the car, act respectful to the officer, there is a decent chance you will not get a ticket. I have gotten the warnings the last three times i was pulled over by a cop.

One day in court where you don't really need a lawyer is 4 months of your life? Your poor family argument is a good one for scaled traffic tickets but it doesn't fit here. The side of a road isn't the place for a adversarial system of justice.

So what mechanism is there to limit a crooked cop from just ruining a citizens day with pending legal fees and court dates?

You can file a complaint. It seems that more and more officers have body cameras and with that will be a record of incidents.

If X officer gets 3 complaints in a month then their cam footage will be reviewed. That's where I think we need transparency.

It's on their bosses and their bosses bosses to fix this. All we can do is elect them.

There's a time and a place to disagree with a traffic citation, the side of the road isn't that place and refusing to comply with the officer's instructions isn't the method you should use unless you just want to go to jail.

This ridiculous (likely mentally unstable) woman is an insult to all of those who are actually mistreated by police and she should be ashamed of herself.

This. I was pulled over last week for not coming to a complete stop at a stop sign (allegedly). I pulled into a parking lot, rolled the window down, hands on steering wheel and just did what he asked after he told me why I was being pulled over. He ran my license, came back to my car and asked me to be more careful and then said "Have a nice day, sir". It's really not hard to act like a decent human during a simple traffic stop.

I still think this would be more interesting if this was about a cop arresting their boyfriend for very minor offense as opposed to it just being a crazy woman turning a simple traffic ticket into an arrest with mentally unstable behavior.

One of the things we can see here is how paranoia is growing among the public. The woman is genuninely scared of becoming another Sandra Bland.

The cop keeps his cool up to a point, but as someone else said why did he need to arrest her. She was no threat and so what if she lipped off a bit. Write a stupid little ticket and get over it or hey let her go with a warning as many of my white women friends get for such minor siht fairly frequently.

Pretty simple. Is this really that hard to use common professional courtesy instead of getting all SHE IS CHALLENGING MY AUTHORITY. HOW DARE SHE DO THAT !

Officer: "Listen mam I realize you might be scared with all that is going on and I might have had a tough tone in my voice initially, but there is no need to be afraid. Please get back in your car while I run your plates and decide whether I need to give you a ticket or a warning. Please keep calm. Many types of professionals such as teachers, hospital attendants etc. can handle these types of situations well.

She's "genuninely" scared of committing suicide after acting like a moron and getting herself arrested? She seemed to manage just fine in her 2 days in jail after acting like a moron and getting herself arrested so I don't think she had any reason to fear that she'd kill herself.

She is another Sandra Bland. She was pulled over for a lawful reason and arrested for failure to comply with lawful orders. The only difference is that she didn't kill herself in jail.

Terrible cop there though. You don't allow a suspect to drag you around like that while you are handcuffing them. He should have taken her down to the ground immediately when she first twisted her arm away from him when he went to handcuff her.

That takes training and that's not protocol for officers. You think people have paranoia? How about officers right now? You think it's safe to jump out of your car without being instructed to by an officer? The first person that didn't keep their calm was the women.

An officer can't allow someone to control the situation. It's counter productive and isn't safe for them of the person stopped. A stop isn't a friendly conversation, it's the beginning of an investigation.

as a very wise man once said " stupid is what stupid does "..

The only reason I can think of why some of the genuine posters here get attacked for! Is the fact they do not go low when they're responding back to ignorants
