Coogs success is equivalent to Rox, Stros, and Texans IMO.

Would be great having UH experience hig things.

Beat OU and ride the surge!

You misunderstand me. By changes coming in the NCAA I mean more conference realignment in the future. It's always about the money, pro or college.

The Big 12 as well as other conferences have always been recruiting in Houston. I don't think UH in the Big 12 changes anything in terms of recruitment.

Looking at the rest of the schedule, do you think one major win can get them to the playoff if they win out?

It doesn't. The SEC has always been getting kids out of Houston. A&M has always gotten top local recruits when they were good. They just happen to be getting them in the SEC now as opposed to the Big 12.

I do think some kids specifically want to play other SEC schools but the whole dilution of talent thing is overblown. Texas has always been a major exporter of talent.

It's a long shot, but not out of the realm of possibility. We'd have to have a convincing win over OU (10+ point victory) and completely destroy everyone else on the schedule, including Louisville. It would also really help if some of the teams ahead of UH have 2 or more losses. TL;DR: It would take a perfect storm, but I'm happy that any of this is even remotely possible.

If we beat OU in ANY fashion (blow-out, 10 points, last second FG by 1, in overtime, without there best player in the 2nd half, with the aid of a terrible call, etc.) AND win out we should be favored to be in the playoff. It is extremely difficult to go undefeated. A preseason rank 13, albeit coaches poll, means a much short climb to the top.

UH controlled the line and the skies that day, though you'd have to believe there was a degree of overlook from Florida State that may have contributed to the blow out. I feel like if they had brought it it would've been a closer game. The game was more lopsided than the final score indicated.

It took me months to get that damn Seminole Chant outta my head. Coogs destroyed them worse with our chants than on the field.

How do we even measure something like this, though? They handed the ball to Cook 18 times and our d-line stopped them. This idea of "overlook" is a narrative that we the fans add, just because we may not want to accept how good the 2015 Cougars were. College football players are competitors and want to dominate the other team every rep, no matter who they're playing. Jimbo Fisher is one of the best coaches in the country and he had them ready to play that game.

Everyone is underestimating the power of opening the season in the top 10 and winning the bowl game. The old bias are still there with the committee, and by that I mean the rankings and perception, both of which are in our favor now. We can't lose a game, but we're in the playoff at undefeated. I don't even like that those matter, but history still matters, and the early season ranking still influence.

All that said, we lost a lot of talent. It's going to be a war.

The narrow, nearly impossible playoff path for the AAC

Hype or hoax: Are the Wolverines, Cougars and Huskies really that good?

Sorry for being a noob, but what does it mean when a newcomer's "stripe" is removed? Specifically, what does he have to do to earn it?

It seems like Herman has introduced a stripe system on helmets during training camp. All newcomers (freshman and transfers) have blue stripes. Once they have shown enough in camp for the coaches and players to trust them, they have the blue stripe removed and is replaced with a red stripe. Most of the team wears a red stripe. There's also a gold stripe reserved for the players who are going beyond the effort of everyone else.

Yes. If UH beats OU (not likely) and wins out, I believe they are likely to get into the playoff.

A lot would depend on OU's season.

If OU ran the table after losing to UH, I agree with you.

Semi-related, but UH is moving forward with plans to demolish the Quad and replace it by 2019

Bittersweet for me as I have many good memories from living in Taub hall, but I'm excited to see progress. I do hope that the new structure retains some of the traditional look.

Taub is my old stomping grounds too.

Are they going to knock the towers down?

Those have to be nearing the end of their lifespan.

I think the towers are far worse but I guess more money to take down. The looks have already been destroyed on that side by the rail.
