Agree there are a lot better beers made, and a lot worse beers made too (some by new Houston breweries) I had a Guinness the other day, not as bad as I expected but not something I'd order unless there was nothing else
Ive had a couple beer nuts tell me to try it out if I dont mind sour beer on it's own. Ive done it a few times and it's been enjoyable. But, if you dont like anything remotely sour, then probably not for you. However, I like sour beer on it's own, so mixing with an IPA tones it down and gives it a better flavor.
Mixing beers or adding anything to beers (e.g., limes) is either the sign of a bad beer or is an insult to the brewmaster.
On a slightly related note, I dropped 2 shots of an otherwise disgusting Jack Daniels Tennessee Honey into a Leffe Blonde Belgian beer. Magic. Sure to give you diabetes in record time though.
Ehhh black and tans and snakebites are more for show than taste. Its less about mixing the beer and more about pouring it so the two beers stay separate.
That is a half & half, though a true half & half is a Black & Tan. There are all sorts of Black and "________" Disagree. Guinness was made for Irish Car Bombs.
Sour Puss Mellow Mushroom does a suicide. In my location that is 26 beers. I didn't like it, but my dad did.
I feel like its more of a gimmick/interesting drink than it is flavorful. I have had stuff like snakebites and black and tans and they are good but I would much rather have a beer that I like on its own. If I am drinking something mixed I prefer it to have liquor. I am a fan of mixing liquor and beer/cider (dark and stormy, Moscow mule, angry balls) because it is delicious but they can be dangerous. Three home-poured dark and stormies and I am beyond happy.
I like to mix a Chocolate Stout with a Blue Moon(a white wheat beer). It's called a "Dark Side Of the Moon" and its got a really smooth flavor. Everyone I've made one for has liked it so far.
Not always. Mixing beers is common. With Abita for example, the popular mix of Andygator and Strawberry Abita is now sold by Abita as Strawgator.
Yuengling sells a Black & Tan, which is a mix of their Porter & Premium (whatever the hell that is). Their Premium & Light Premiums are the only 2 I've never seen.
