My point is how did it ever get to that point and clearly not trading for anyone to fix that need is a sign they didn't think they could win it all this year. I'm fine with it assuming we address some of these needs in the off season and go for it next year.

Would rather see Kemmer up here than Tucker.

or a sign that the price for real upgrades (Bruce rental, Braun longer term, etc.) were too high. But yeah, address the hell out of them in the offseason for sure. Feels like we're going to see significant changes--somewhat unusual given that the team will be coming off (most likely) 2 straight over-.500 seasons

That's the more aggravating aspect... we don't have anyone in the minors. So the team will either have to make a trade for one (losing key players and/or prospects) or sign a FA catcher.

    Here's the FA list:

    Catchers

    Alex Avila (30)
    Drew Butera (34)
    Jason Castro (30)
    A.J. Ellis (36)
Ryan Hanigan (36) — $3.75MM club option with an $800K buyout
    Nick Hundley (33)
    Chris Iannetta (34) — $4.25MM club/vesting option
    Jonathan Lucroy (31) — $5.25MM club option with a $25K buyout
    Jeff Mathis (34)
    Dioner Navarro (33)
    A.J. Pierzynski (40)
    Wilson Ramos (29)
    Carlos Ruiz (38) — $4.5MM club option with a $500K buyout
    Jarrod Saltalamacchia (32)
    Geovany Soto (34)
    Kurt Suzuki (33) — $6MM vesting option
    Josh Thole (30)
    Matt Wieters (31)

Lucroy looks even better looking at that list?

I think Tucker just swung at ball 4, twice.

    Reed just missed that one.

And yes, watching Lucroy for the Rangers sucks. The Brewers price didn't seem that crazy, especially with a power relief arm attached. Lucroy is even dirt cheap for next year, and if you don't resign him after that, you're essentially guaranteed a comp round pick.

This offense is embarrassingly bad. Something needs to be done to try and fix this, it can't continue to go on without repercussion.

Can't blame Luhnow for being a little gun shy with dealing with the Brewers after the Gomez fiasco.

Things could obviously change, and I hope for the better offensively, but this has reached a whole new level of sad.

There is a possibility that our starters for this series will give up a combined 2 runs this series, and can lose 2 out of 3.

Of course you can. One should have nothing to do with the other.

None of the guys they gave up for Gomez are looking like future stars.

I think it's been awhile where I've seen as many batters immediately start walking away after strike 3, knowing they've been totally had.

on the bright side, Musgrove continues to look filthy. The team is only down 1 run. And a win would be winning the series and moving in the right direction (of course, still need Reed/Bregman basically for this to work long term)
