Part of being a team that is so heavily invested in Moneyball is understanding what each individual player's limits are. They know that Keuchel could still be effective and safe up to 120 pitches. They know that McCullers might have a hard cap at 100, etc., etc. It's likely different for each pitcher on how far they can go.

Agreed... But that's not what moneyball is.

Not at all...he wouldnt have failed to the point of a loss. In my opinion, the game was won at that point. I'm all for saving the arm as much as possible, and even if it's just 11 pitches more. Now, I understand that keuchel probably wanted that complete game more than anyone, so that decision to go back out in the 9th is more bc it was Keuchel's decision... And Hinch just letting his guy have his moment.

And why do you assume I'd be all over Hinch...do I have a history of ripping him apart? I think he's made some stupid decisions and some smart decisions (and I'll call him out on it), but I'm not the type to just sit there waiting for Hinch to mess up so I can come in here screaming. Perhaps you have me confused with someone else.

Can we remove Rasmus for Gonzalez in that lineup? Or even Gomez?

If Gattis' health allows, he should C until Gurriel is promoted. Maximize his bat until reinforcements begin.

I imagine Dallas lobbied to go back out for the 9th.

We need the Cy Keuchel version for this stretch. I would've also preferred to save his arm when he was already at 100 pitches, but I think getting the complete game, shutout will do wonders for his confidence.

Let's just hope he builds on it.

    Fair enough

So many just jump all over him for any possible reason that I probably lumped you in with that group. It's a topic that comes up pretty much every time Keuchel starts, a complete game shutout or him being terrible from the beginning is about the only way for a Keuchel start to not draw criticism towards Hinch.

    Sorry about that

Who you think actually writes the lineup card? Such great penmanship.
    Is it printed, ?

Great win last night and real solid crowd. And thankfully astros fans far outnumbered ranger fans. Only asterisk on this one was that we played a Rangers team that sat profar, mazarra and lucroy - a pretty potent bunch offensively. Today and tomorrow will not be nearly as easy.

Gosh. I just got into baseball this year but that is a really terrible offensive lineup. I get that there is potential for that lineup to hit in 2018 but damn.

I always thought Hinch writes out the lineup cards. See similarities in the A in his signature and the A in Altuve.

Bugs me to see Tucker in LF. Wish Rasmus would break out of his funk. Bregman is going to get his 1st multi-hit game today.

Maybe in terms of AVG it looks ugly but no one with a mind for baseball puts much weight in that stat anymore.

Plus Gattis and Marisnick have been swinging it pretty well lately. Bregman has been BABIP'd into oblivion his first few weeks on the Stros. His luck will turn.

Colby Rasmus not in the Astros' lineup tonight despite an RHP (Harrell) on the mound for Texas. Rasmus' .211 average the worst in AL.

I cringe when I see Tucker's name in the lineup. I hope he proves me wrong tonight.

No joke, the reason I came to make a comment was because I saw Tucker's name on the lineup card.

I was going to say that I really hope this is his last shot at making any sort of regular appearance for this team. I dont see why we dont have Kemp in the lineup instead of Tucker. Not only for offense, but specially for defensive LF.

I just think it's a bad move because he doesnt bring any range on defense, doesnt have a strong arm, isnt fast around the base paths, and struggles mightily as a hitter. In other words, I dont think he brings anything to the table at all. If he struggles tonight, then I really dont see the purpose of keeping Kemp/Teoscar at AAA while this guy wastes ABs on a team trying to make the playoffs.

I don't know about far outnumbered. I saw plenty of Ranger fans there. Or at least folks with Ranger gear on. We gave them plenty to sit on their hands about. Can't wait for another win tonight!

would rather see Tucker than Rasmus...even given the defense differential (while at home at least)

5-9 yikes. Hoping Fister can pitch a gem similar to Dallas did yesterday.
