Reading this really makes one appreciate who they are and why Mr. and Mrs. Khan spoke out. Also makes it that much more clear what vile and disgusting creatures Donald Trump and his followers are for attacking the Khan family.
Not really. The Khan situation hurt Trump mostly because the way Trump reacted to the family's criticism like an *******. Obama never did that with Joe. There was also not the near universal condemnation. The Fox News Poll from last week asked voters whether they thought Trump handled things well with the Khan family, the result was something like 20% approve to 60% disapprove. We got GOP officer holders condemning Trump's statement also (which then led to the whole "Do you endorse Ryan/McCain/Ayotte?" drama). These things just didn't happen in '08. Republicans cried "Socialism!" but we didn't have the kind of 20/60 split public opinion or Democratic condemnation. Also, it's not clear what difference Joe made in 08. Look at this polling average chart, can you tell me when Joe met Obama and impacted the poll numbers? http://www.pollster.com/polls/us/08-us-pres-ge-mvo.html
Correct me if I'm wrong, but Joe the Plumber was not a Gold Star parent. This seems kind of Trumpy disrespectful to members of our armed forces.
Both guys are irrelevant in the grand scheme of things. Both guys are being used by their party. Both guys are capitalizing on their claim to fame. Joe the Plumber is an ordinary American. Khan is a wealthy lawyer who represents rich foreigners and capitalizing on his sons death. Khan represents everything democrats should despise. If he was a white Republican, he would be hated by the left.
Indeed. Add to that Joe the Plumber was a liar who misrepresented himself as a business owner and Joe didn't understand that he himself benefited from the tax plan he criticized. Khan's speech should have come and gone. And it would have if Trump were fit for the presidency and responded like a president would.
Both of them are the same. One is ordinary and the other is a scum. Both of them are the same. Repeat.
One lost his son who bravely lost his his life in defense of his country. Embarrassing that you should even try to compare the two...
And even even though Joe the Plumber misrepresent himself, Obama didn't treat him like anything more than just another American and with respect. The Joe and Khan comes and go. How you respond to them is a reflection of who you are.
Exactly. Obama could have called him out as a fraud later but didn't. It would have been unstatesmanlike to do so. As Carl pointed out, it reflects more on Trump and his supporters that they keep attacking this family than just moving on.
He's making good money off of it? You really ought to stop posting, its turning extremely vile and ignorant. Was the ass whooping after you started that other thread not enough?
1. Have the people screaming Khan conspiracy theories even read the NYT piece? This is a sincerely patriotic family doing this to honor the memory of their deceased son. Yes, this is "political," but for those of us who are immigrants, Trump's "political" views are very personal to us. We don't have the luxury of discussing it as though it is detached from our lives. 2. If we are going to compare the impact of Trump's reaction to the Khans to anything, I think it is the "47%" comment from 2012: something that is taken as a revelation of a candidate's sincere belief (and confirms what his opponent was trying to say about him) and come to define him for the rest of the election. There are some differences between the situations of course (and I think the Trump situation is significantly worse for him). In the end, though, they both look like the kind of stuff that's gonna linger.
Where are you getting that from? According to the NYT story on him and his family recently he stated this: http://www.nytimes.com/2016/08/06/us/khan-soldier-convention-iraq.html?_r=0 [rquoter]In recent years, he had gone out on his own as a legal consultant. A few days ago, he took down the website promoting his law work. He said that he was getting hateful messages and that he was worried about it being hacked. Insinuations were being made, that he was involved in shady immigration cases. He said he has had no clients come to him for that sort of work. He said he did commercial law, especially electronic discovery work.[/rquoter] According to this his work is actually taking a hit from all of this.
You can keep prefacing your posts that you don't like Trump, but when it looks like a duck, quacks like a duck, and constantly posts like a duck...this post was as Trumpian as it gets. You have a lot of hate in you, no snark.
