Similar to Harden's deal, he'll get more money next year in exchange for committing to an extra year. Basically he'll become a FA the summer after next (2018) rather than next summer (2017).

Also helps his trade value a bit.

Still a definite victory for OKC if they pull it off.

It was either extend or trade.

I thought a trade would happen but this "Harden" deal makes great sense for both sides.

 

It gives another year for the Lakers to develop
