You can like them all, not compare them to any other movie genres, and still be able to rank them in terms of if they're good or not. If you're saying you like Fantastic Four just as much as the Dark Knight, well, then you're just a wild man.
I like both these posts. And while I don't feel the need to add critique, I can rank them by giving a slight nod to Ziggy.
Well...BvS and Suicide Squad suffered from the same problems.....too much pressure from WB/DC to speed things up. Wonder Woman actually should be fine because it had alot more time and a different creative team. Also, Justice League will benefit from the problems of the first 2 movies...since they brought in new people to fix things. WB/DC need Wonder Woman to be good.
If Wonder Woman tanks there is little hope for any other DC movie outside of Batman and maaaaybe JLA. I hope this script by Ayer lines up with his Training Day talent rather than his The Fast and The Furious showing. "Tuna sandwich. No crust" "He's a cop....he's a COP!" "SWAT came to my house...disrespected me in front of my family..."
I'm strangely relieved it's getting not so great reviews, because now it'll be easier to await a Redbox release. Save me $30 or so on movie tickets.
I'm gonna go out on a limb and say Aquaman will be a very good DC movie. You can make a very unique, terrifying world out of the deep ocean. It hopefully won't be city getting blown up like every other superhero movie.
If this movie and Wonder Woman actually tank their only hope is Batman. I still have much higher hopes for SS than JLA because it isn't building on the previous garbage. Even with the reviews, I doubt this movie loses money.
Geek Tyrant review....spoilered in case there as spoilers....I glanced through it so not sure how much he spoils, read at your own risk.... Suicide Squad was Freakin Awesome Screw The Bad Reviews Spoiler Like most of you, I was hoping for great things from director David Ayer’s Suicide Squad. For me, this was going to be the movie that would make or break the DCEU films at Warner Bros. I was let down by Man of Steel and Batman v Superman was littered with issues, but I’m thrilled to tell you that Suicide Squad delivered everything I hoped for and more! It was such an unexpectedly awesome movie! Just so you know, I’m not going to get into any spoilers in this review, and believe me, there are plenty of awesome plot points that I could spoil for you if I wanted to! You could have watched every trailer for this film and read every spoilery news piece for Suicide Squad and nothing would have spoiled this movie for you. It was full of surprises I didn’t see coming and it was really refreshing not knowing what was going to happen. The studio seemed to do a great job keeping some of the most fun aspects of the film a surprise, including one of the villains who was pretty badass. I thought the story and the characters of this film were solidly handled. The story and script were tight and this was very much a character study of all the main characters that filled it. Ayer did an incredible job developing each and every one of the main characters that were introduced in the film. A little over halfway through the movie, I actually cared for these characters and what happened to them. I was emotionally invested in each one of them, especially Harley Quinn, Deadshot, Diablo, and Rick Flagg. There were a lot of characters in the movie, but they were balanced so perfectly. I was seriously shocked by how well Ayer brought these characters to life with such precision. One of the things that I wasn’t expecting at all when I saw this movie was the powerful background of the characters and the explosion of emotion in the film. Don’t get me wrong, the movie was insanely fun and action-packed, but this is easily one of the most emotional comic book movies that has been made, and that includes what we’ve seen in most of the Marvel films. There was so much emotional depth in these characters. At one point, one of them shared their background story with the other Task Force X team members, and it was so powerful, I'll admit I got a little choked up. That being said, I do have to say that as much as I enjoyed Jared Leto’s version of The Joker, he was the least developed character in the movie and he was only in it for about 10 minutes. He was handled fine, but there’s just so much more depth to that character and this film barely scratched the surface. I hope that they explore him more in some of the other upcoming films. He’s definitely a character worth exploring, I just wasn’t personally as invested in him as most of the other characters. It was a fun new version of the villain and I think fans will be torn on him. Some of you will love him and other might hate him. The story doesn’t revolve around him, though, so ultimately I think the movie might have given us just the right amount of the Joker. As for the actors that portrayed the characters, Margot Robbie, Will Smith, Joel Kinnaman, Jared Leto, Jay Hernandez, and Viola Davis shined in film and all gave fantastic performances. They all amazingly brought their characters to life, and they are people you don't want to mess with. They are as hardcore as hardcore can get, and that came across in their performances. This is honestly the best DC movie to come out of Warner Bros. since Christopher Nolan’s The Dark Knight trilogy. It also rivals a few of the Marvel films that have been made because we’ve never seen anything like this from Marvel. The best Marvel movie I could compare it to is Guardians of the Galaxy because of the radical ensemble cast of misfit characters. I’d also say that the emotional investment in the characters is comparable to Guardians of the Galaxy, but in different ways. On top of the well-crafted story and characters, it's got all of the cool spectacular visuals and designs to make it pop with awesomeness. Suicide Squad is a movie that you do not want to miss on the big screen! It’s a hardcore action film with a beautiful, emotion-filled story about redemption that I think fans and audiences can appreciate. This movie is a wild and fun ride and if you just let yourself be engulfed in this world, I think you'll enjoy the hell out it. I’ve seen that the movie is getting some bad reviews, so the movie obviously isn’t for everyone. If you didn’t like it and you don’t agree with my review, feel free to give me crap in the comments below, but you won’t change my mind. There was one thing that happened in the film that was kind of a WTF moment between Batman and Harley Quinn — I won't get into it here because I don't want to spoil anything, but I did think to myself, "what in the hell was that all about?" I didn't understand its place in the movie, it didn't really need to be there, but I didn't let it ruin the movie for me. The film wasn't perfect, but Ayer made something completely unique and different, and if people can’t embrace that...oh well. All I know is that I had a blast watching Suicide Squad! Some people will think I’m crazy for liking it as much as I did, but I think people are crazy for not liking it, so to each their own. http://geektyrant.com/news/review-suicide-squad-was-freakin-awesome-screw-the-bad-reviews
I'm sure they'll reach pretty close to the $800m goal with worldwide ticket sales. Which will probably mean a solo Harley Quinn movie gets the green light, for better or worse. I just want DC/WB to get it right. I'm a Marvel fanboy but it's great for just everyone when comic adaptations (let alone movies) gets the source material correct. I think DC/WB, as some have already stated, is moving too fast too soon. Sure it's nice to lay out a 3+ year plan on how you want to roll out movies but that kinda sets you up for failure if your movies don't work out the way you want it to be. If this tanks, WW tanks, Aquaman tanks, where does that leave the Justice League movie in terms of fulfilling the hype?
The whole "Dark vs Light" tone debate is annoying . Just make a good movie with a plot and interesting characters. I realize I'm saying it like it's easy to just make a good movie. If WB just made a regular coherent movie everybody would be good until the sequel. I mean, the bar was set ultra low and still the critics aren't happy. That must be supremely devastating.
He hasn't had a "hit" since MIB 3 and that was 4 years ago. Before that, Hancock was his big grossing movie in 2008.
I was hoping that this movie would take on the kind of character dynamic that Guardians of the Galaxy had but with more violence. I'm still hoping for that
Concussion was a critical success Focus was a financial success and wasn't that bad a movie ( I enjoyed it) Those movies weren't supposed to be blockbuster movies. Suicide Squad might not be a critical darling (they seem to like Smith's role in the film), but it's still tracking to be big at the box office. So, I don't think Will Smith is circling the drain.
You can say that, but read the post I quoted just below. This is the underlying issue. DC isn't trying to make "fun" super hero movies and that is hurting them. They take these movies very seriously and try to touch on really serious themes and people are not reacting well to that. The superhero audience doesn't want to be required to pay attention to all of the dialogue to understand what is happening.
