They thought of the children and shaved a day from his arrival to Houston. Yay! All is right now!

I'll fully admit that I'm being impatient, but part of that is due to the fact that he's 32 years old. He's been around the block more than a few times, and has succeeded at every level of pitching he's ever faced. I understand that he hasn't played in over a year, and I also understand that a week is nothing in terms of sample size. However, in that case, 2 weeks is a small sample size too. Unfortunately, there's only about 8 weeks left in the season. If this were June, I would have no issues slow-tracking him, but given the dire circumstances that we are in right now, I don't see how waiting (for multiple weeks) does us any favors. If he fails, then he fails, and we move onto next year when he'll hopefully mash.

    Currently in Lancaster; DH/3B
End of week, hopefully in Corpus & 1 week there

2+ hit games should be an automatic call up to the next level

One fairly obvious element to this is that they are working it so he doesn't have to take minor league bus trips and just make the travel aspect of it as easy as possible. He's in Lancaster for their home stand, then will move to Corpus for theirs, then on to Houston. Unless he gets hurt I would be shocked if he isn't in Houston for the cardinals series.

We could be buried in 2 weeks. Valbuena can't play for another week and isn't guaranteed to be heathy on day-16. Gurriel should be on a plane to AAA, play a series, then on a plane to wherever the Astros are.

Corpus is much closer to Houston. You're talking about the difference between him playing 4 days in High A followed by maybe 4 games in AA vs playing 4 games in AAA then heading on to the majors. Even assuming Gurriel is a Mike Trout level impact player, the odds of his presence dictating the outcome of any game over a 4 game stretch are very low.

I thought I heard somewhere that the timing may also have to do with roadblocks for him able to travel to Canada... at Blue Jays 8/12-14). Hence the August 16 target here.

The difference was the extra week before his playing in the majors. We don't play STL until 2 weeks.
