If only we could have more such reasoned responses, we might actually be able to have meaningful debates here.

Although, it is ...comical? ironic? hypocritical? all of the above...watching liberals, of all people, advocating censorship and repressing ideas. As SweetLou points out, disagreeing with ideas is fine, desired even. Repressing their expression is...Fascist?

I never said it was liberal. I am a liberal for the most part although I have many criticisms of the left.

I would say that the majority of liberals would be against censorship. Understand that Milo was a very different case than Shapiro. Milo was harassing someone which is not free speech.

But the idea that liberals as a whole support Shapiro not being able to speak on campus - I don't see the evidence for it. What I do see is a very activist left making most of the noise and causing trouble.

Now if a university decides that this speaker is not worth having all that extra security and trouble, that's their right. But it isn't right that a vocal group can force a university from having a dissenting voice speak.

I would hope that the University would invite Mr. Shapiro back to have a debate with someone of an opposing POV so that everyone could listen and form their own opinions.

This isn't about repression, it's about conservatives who believe their racism, xenophobia, and misogyny deserve equal time in the public square. Ben Shapiro was going to be a featured speaker at a Cal State event called When Diversity Becomes a Problem. It's quite understandable that a lot of students were pissed and protested. The school then became concerned for everyone's safety and cancelled the event.

Shapiro says, “Capitalism is color blind. The only color that capitalism cares about is green.”

Statements like that and, “our public school system has been teaching students that they are each members of victimized groups” have sparked protests and demonstrations when Shapiro speaks.

He believes racism is the fictional spaghetti monster.

    He's a race baiting a-hole.

I don't think universities should be in the habit of disinviting anyone to speak unless they have reasonable fears that not doing so could invite a risk of life or injury. That doesn't seem to be the case here. I saw NOI reps speak at Sam Houston State and heard their speech and was allowed to actually engage them, and while I found their views largely repugnant, I would have been upset if they weren't allowed to speak.

I didn't go to a university to sit in an echo chamber where I was never challenged by people who didn't agree with me or "protected" from ideas that might hurt my feelings.

Actually at the Cal State event he needed a police escort to get out of the building. So there were definitely risks. DePaul obviously doesn't want to deal with the nonsense of having to pay for a large amount of security to essentially allow hate speech.

It's Open House every night at Rocket's Legend's. our taxes paid for the sidewalk in front the house, we have a right to it.

Anyway, I agree universities should not be banning speakers unless it's extremism or something that promotes hate or violence. People are way too sensitive these days and it's not good, all opinions and ideas should be heard and let the students make their own judgement on them.

I hope you guys realize that the argument put forward by RocketsLegend (public roads, etc.) is the exact same argument the left relies on to advance the idea that private businesses should not be allowed to discriminate. I'm glad people are starting to realize how silly it is.

Trump losing the upcoming election is going to be so sweet.
On par with Golden State choking away a 3-1 lead.

Oh man I'm going to be so happy reading the reactions of the r/the_donald members on this board.

You just have to feel for the kid. Life has knocked him down so much and so often that this is what he's got now.

Good to see you realize about the roads. Can you be moving beyond simplistic conservative on hating government?

BTW as a leftist and civil libertarian I agree with you that De Paul Uiversity should not suppress this guy's speech just because it is obnoxiously divisive.

DePaul is also famous for caving to Zionist pressure and firing Norman Finkelstein a noted Jewish scholar who opposes Israeli mistreatment of the Palestinians.
